My Soft Release review

This is my reivew of the soft release shutter that I own. I only have convex softreleases, because I do not like concave versions.

My images below show you the difference between these softreleases. There is actually very little to choose between them. The main noticeable differencess are that Tim Isaac and Tom Abramssons' soft releases are taller and lodged higher up, whereas Phillip Tay's softrelease is much smaller and sits lower. Personally, I prefer the softrelease to be small as possible, and so I am using Phillip Tay's at the moment. When you choose, make sure you try it on your camera for the "feel". The size of your index finger is likely to determine what type of feel you prefer.

For cost comparison, both Tom Abramsson's and Phillip Tay's cost SGD20, whereas Tim Isaac's bug costs SGD30 or slightly more.

Good review, i have tried the Tim Isaac's BUG, Tom Abramsson's Softrelease Mini and mr Tay's concave. Of the three i much prefer mr Tay's concave followed by Tom abramsson mini, the BUG gets sticky and not as tactile as the other 2 after some use.

If you use the RF soft release like what Tom Abrahamsson described, i.e. using the second joints of the index finger, you will need a CONVEX surface with ENOUGH HEIGHT. It allows you to release your shutter just like squeezing the trigger of a M-16 riffle using the middle section of the index finger. Try it, you can shoot a 50mm lens at 1/2 sec with no camera shake. :D

which one sits best on the camera?
i've lost 2 already.... :(

I had the same problem and BS Kim from luxecase.com advised me to
dab a tiny bit of transparent nail polish on the threads before screwing it in. I've not lost a single one since even when moving around a lot with the cameras.

great idea!!

but can u still take it out next time? say when u want to sell your camera..

No problem; it's just a small dab - no need to cover all the threads - enough to hold the soft release in place. After you've unscrewed it, you can't really see anything inside. Just to be sure, you can use a small dental brush to clean the inside threads of the camera shutter release button.

nail polish remover is basically a milder form of thinner.

for paint thinning or removal purposes, it is frequently used in hobby arts like gundam modelling or figure painting

it eliminates grease and makes the screw joint fit tighter

oh i thought it will be completely cemented together.. haha obviously i don't have enough experience with nail polish!!

ok thanks

bro chiif, please lift the ban.. this one should be the last one i buy!! haha
