My M4 got some technical problem, I think need CLA liao

Let me describe my problem:-

After developing my film, I discovered I got overlapping frames, and some parts of my roll are unused. Also, when I pull the film advance lever, its very jittery and not smooth at all.

Initially, I thought that the teeth in either the film spool or the back roller were not biting the holes along the side of the film.

So I try to inspect what is going on inside the camera. I open up the camera (bottom cover and back cover) and pull the film advance lever to see what is happening with the mechanism. I did this when film was loaded, so that I can see what is really happening. (used cheap expired film) I discovered that nothing inside the camera is moving even when I pull the film advance lever! Even the film spool does not move. It seems like the film advance lever is not connected properly.

anybody got this problem before?

Repaired by: Master Tay (decameraconsultant).
Problem: crooked shaft underneath the rewind crank.
Solution: replaced shaft.

Master Tay also help me do a full CLA. His gongfu is really powerful. He pointed out so many things to clean and finetune that I cannot see with my naked eyes. But once he identify for me to see, wah sek, really is liddat got something there. I really wish whatever I buy from ebay can first be sent to him for inspection before I pay.

My Black Paint M4 is now so squeaky and crispy clean and spanky. Rewind Lever now sexy smooth. Even the brassed edges look nicer LOL


.p.s. I am still considering Contax G2. But I going on holiday from 10 June, I dounch wan to start with new system

His gongfu really powerful. I remembered when I last bought my F3 from a local shop at peninsula near Cathay, the shop owner was like, "Everything ok and fine" but when I brought it to Mr Tay. Within 15 minutes he can list some of the issues with the camera already. Make me feel damn sian leh...

i think so, visited him a couple of weeks ago, and saw him working on 1 leica on his table...

When i was at Master Tay shop, his phone keep ringing. People call and say their camera got this symptom that symptom, ask what is wrong, how much money to fix, how much time to fix. LOL so funny how can people expect Master Tay to give diagnosis over the phone. Like medical doctor, camera doctor also must check 'body' mah....no body to see, how to know what is wrong tio bo. Its like telling gommy to inspect my wisdom tooth over the phone liddat, how can right. Need to see dentist, do x ray, open mouth mah...

Not Master Tay dun wan to fix, He told me got some camera owner unreasonable wan. Thats why some he did not fix. Got leica to repair is good business why he dun wan? Its just that some owners are difficult. He gave example. He say sometimes owner keep insisting the problem is X even though Master Tay diagnose problem is Y. But this owner want him to fix X not Y. Liddat better dun fix right, wait fix liao X still got problem how? say Master Tay fail? If doctor say eat medicine Y, how can patient choose medicine X? Wait doctor kenna tio blame

At the end of day, not doctor refuse to cure patient. Sometimes patient are not receptive to doctor. If dun trust doctor, den find another doctor get second opinion lor...camera failure not kidney failure mah

Everybody knows from buy/sell thread that some camera owners are psychos. Its just as bad when camera sowner need to fix camera. Alot of psycho behaviour, not easy to be camera doctor lor

From what I understand, Mr Tay will still repair Leicas on a case by case basis.

Sometimes when u got a new cam n visit him, u scare he will say alot of unexpected issues..cos u always hope wat u buy is like wat u think!
when u bring a spoilt cam to him, vice versa u hope he will say more rather den, cant repair!

Anything I buy something that is not brand new, goes to Mr Tay or Leica for a full service. I know it costs money and time, but you already paid so much money, why not spend a little bit more for peace of mind and the restoration of what you bought to fully operational status?

Parts are harder and harder to come by, might as well get everything done now and be sure it will last for many more years.
