You see different result between film and CCD. You still have your film SLR? Try the lens on low light with and with flash then compare to your day shots. you will see the edge contrast is different. On CCD it is more obvious. CCD photo cell is not as dense as ISO 100-200 or even 400 film.grado said:Hmm... I have a 70-210mm f4 but it didnt appear soft at the edges from my casual shoots... Could it be a bad copy? As I only have minolta film camera, here are some film scans taken around 2 years back with that lens...

it all depend on the lighting situationleeshock said:I was using 1/60 F4, ISO 200. I think its a bit slow when the models started walking but OK when they pause to pose for while. EOW what settings do u use?
grado said:Were you using the centre focussing point? The other focus point may not be as fast in focussing... Also I think you might wanna up the ISO to 400 or more? Some of the pics lacks fill flash also...
looka said:Very good shots. Great colour. I gues they can be better if you had better gear. Those soft looking photo are not your fault, its the Lens, 70-210/4. Its photo always show soft edges. I had this Lens too 4 years sold to my friend at $200. There are a few shot indicate your 7D may has the low-light-back-focus problem. You can check it out at Dpreview. my 5D afew time also had this problem with my 75-300.

However, if i'm in yr case i would upz the iso to 400 to increase flash range and shutter speed.

leeshock....Can't see your photo EXIF to see the focal lens, aperture, ISO, shutter you are using. Care to enlighten us ? For focusing, did you use center focus and recompose ? Where do you lock focus on ?

I have my 70- 210 F4 and I never encounted this problem before even shots indoor.
Perhaps, you need to set the ISO to 400 to double up your shutter speed to get better still images?
I had the Minolta AF80-200 G went I bought this 70-210/4 from USA. My compare was between those two. I start to notice its strange behave about its edge that make me look more into it. I found the amount of light make a big impact on its performance unlike the G which is very consistant. There are times on same subject and aperture, the 70-210 show one step faster shuttle than 80-200G when light fall it start to go below G. But I can't complaint my 70-210/4 was already 7 years old at that time. Anyway those were my encounter others maybe different. BTW I used Dynax 9 with Kodak Portra and Spectra(Ultracolor) film.grado said:I sold the lens to reno77 and from the pics he took, didnt seem to have an issue with soft corners with his D5D? Maybe I should ask him again, hehe...
