My Führer, Metabones just shipped a 0.64X M43 speedbooster...

Hitler would not be happy and neither would any GH4/GH3 shooter who bought a 0.71X speedbooster after Metabones claimed that 0.71X was optimum for regular M43 sensors and that they were not prepared to compromise on IQ to decrease the crop factor any further for M43 cameras...

LOL @ the Hitler references. I was almost going to buy the existing EF-M43 speedbooster for my GH3/BMPCC I guess I will wait for this one to arrive on our shores! I wish they made a version without electronics since I am getting the Samyangs anyway.

I'm collecting bets for release date of a 0.5X version...

It is better to get the Nikon version than the Canon lens to --> M43? I am still haven't purchased Nikon/Canon versioned lens yet. I know the Nikon to M43 metabones speedbooster is $100+- cheaper than the Canon version.

So the real question is should you invest in a F/G mount lens kit or EF mount kit?
Pros and Cons

F mount pros:
plenty of affordable, high quality vintage manual focus primes to choose from on the 2nd hand market
they may last forever; solid construction before the advent of planned obsolesence in manufacturing
Aperture control ring is on the lens!
generally much smaller than EF equivalent as there are no motors/ stabilisers/ cine casing etc
eg. 28mmf2, 35mmf1.4, 50mmf1.4, 85mmf2, 135mmf2.8 are all only 52mm filter size.
F mount can be used on any system with the correct adapter

F mount cons:

nobody making cine lenses with F mount
reversed focus direction from other brands
not intended as a cine kit, so expect some variation in color/contrast from lens to lens
older F mount zooms are not as fast as modern G/ EF zooms

EF pros:
One word: SAMYANG! (Cine Kit)Cheap and good!
But if you buy AF lenses, you can get AF and even remote control focusing with Aputure DEC (M43version)
Holy Manta and Fotodiox makes ND throttles for EF to M43 but not F mount to M43
Sigma and Tamron will continue to make new faster, cheaper AF lenses for EF (eg 18-35mm f1.8)
Generally EF-to-M43 accessories are released before G to M43 accessories if at all.
EF cons:
Heavier, longer than F mount equivalent
manual focusing ring on AF lenses not as steady and "grippy" as nikon AI/AIS manual lenses

But finally, here's the irony:
F mount lenses can be used on Canon bodies but EF lenses won't focus to infinity when used on Nikon bodies.

Nice overview.

Think Samyang does make cine lenses with F mount. Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 are also available in F mount. They actually have interchangeable mounts (PL, EF, F, E and MFT), pretty cool.

They deliver great flexibility by introducing interchangeable mounts that allow the lenses to be used with a wide range of cameras, from traditional cine to HDSLR systems. Available in five different mounts – PL, EF, F, Micro 4/3 and E – this new family of ZEISS lenses enables cinematographers to be completely free in their choice of camera systems

Wow! Good news for speedbooster owners! Are these special orders or off-the-shelf? The shops in sg are certainly are biased towards EF version since there are more Canon users buying them.

not a Canon fan but I'd say EF mount is more worth it. with EF lenses you are not locked down to a specific camera. I'm about to buy the SB with a set of Samyang cine primes in EF mount for my GH3/BMPCC. won't have any issues for lenses compatibility should I need to rent a C-series, URSA, BMCC, FS7 (with adapter) for higher budget work. in a way you can say EF lenses are 'future proof'

yup you can use F lenses on EF with a simple adapter. what I understand is the reverse isn't possible.

speedbooster XL is super tight on camera body

If cost is no issue, get the new SB with 0.64X and the BMPCC version with 0.58X. I don't think they are interchangeable as the sensor size and flange distance is different. But for maximum compatability with any M43 camera (including teeny ones like GM1/5) the original 0.71X Metabones or the Roxsen is the safest.

the new SB is compatible with both my GH3 and BMPCC. not much worries. Lol.
