My Experience with Dishonest Seller: Luna83

[Now that this episode has come to a close, I thought I would share this for everyone's reference]

3 months ago, I responded to his advert and wanted to buy his Pana 12-50mm lens, one that was 1 month old and he touted it to be in "mint condition".
When we met up to deal, he then pointed out 2 scratch marks and 2 white dots which he claimed to be dust specks that can be cleaned off professionally. Although this ran contrary to the notion of "mint", and being a total noob at checking lens' condition thoroughly, I bought the lens nevertheless after bargaining.

Turned out to be a regrettable mistake. Sent in the lens to clean the very next day and the technician reported broken glass shards all over the lens barrel - suggesting the lens was dropped previously. There was no way of knowing there are broken glass shards (unless you decide to shake it real hard, which I dont think is something usually done??) and even the technician was surprised by this find.

Tried to contact him, hoping we could settle amicably and get back my $1,100. Obviously he didnt answer my call nor SMSes.

And so, I decided to be hard nosed too and file claim against him at Small Claims Tribunal... There were certainly hassles involved in gathering sufficient personal particulars (his) to file the paperwork, and grief when he continued to be the punk and not turn up at Sub Court the first time round. It took another try and he yielded eventually and paid me back the money.

I guess there will always be dishonest people around who are out to take advantage of noobs like myself and cheat their money.. I am sharing this not just to warn against this guy (nick: Luna83; Real Name: Alvin Ng; HP 9683 8869/8167 2882) but to also let everyone take reference from my episode/experience and the options available should you wish to seek redress. I do hope he does not masquerade into another identity and sell of this lens to another victim subsequently.

Thanks for reading. =)

Shame on Alvin. Im glad you got your money back. That guy is a douche.

Thanks for sharing.

It is a shame that someone will give up their integrity over money, for any sum. I feel sad for this Alvin that he was not brought up to understand that money is only a tool and not everything.

I am not surprised these people are around especially in our education system which reward results more than efforts and encouraging young and impressionable people that results justify our actions. look at all the top people in the civil service being prosecuted for crimes.

let us remind ourselves that money is important but only as much as a tool for us to fulfilled our destiny and purpose in life. I hope we don't put owning condos and Beemers as purpose and adoration and approval of others as a driving motivation of our actions.

Let us continue to built trust and fun in this small community in Clubsnap

up for awareness.

I completely agree with you. But what really went beyond my understanding is him not willing to own up his mistake - not answering my calls to settle amicably and not even wanting to appear at Sub Court first time round.

This seller only has 6 posts, and you dare to hand over $1100 to him?

U need to be more street smart next time.........

Doesn't really matter actually. Either a seller only had 1 post, 6 posts or 1000 posts or 10 000 posts, they are all the same. When buying from BnS, it is best to check everything and always expect the worst.

If cannot or not sure, better buy from a recommended shop, might be more expensive but you have valid warranty and a piece of mind (which is very important).
