My A1's firmware is still the original 1.0e or something like that.
Wonder if I do not flash up my firmware - will I be missing anything except the problem with the interval thingy?
here's how u check your A1 firmware version. Go to Setup menu, then at Section 1, press the Display Information button (small "i" , at Left side of Digital Zoom button).
I do not know what's the changes in the latest update, have to check it out with Minolta

Actually was testing with wife's A1...she took some good shots with it.
Unfortunately there was some vignetting...

I believe it was the polariser used in some of the shots.
What's "vignetting", by the way? I'm new to photography.
Did u managed to check what Firmware your A1 is using?

I have used A1 for ROM indoor luncheon assignment. The sharpness is there. But you need to be able to control the colour temperature and white balance. My concern for that event was colour not sharpness. My clients was satisfied with the digital prints (4R).
On another occasion, the camera was used as a travelling camera (IMHO, really good for travelling). The digital printout (4R) is still fine.
By the way the camera is a 4:3 camera with 2560x1920 resolution. I always crop to 2560x1708 (3:2) before sending them for printing. So you may have a 5 MP camera but I only use approx 4.37 MP worth of data. I believed the photo printers use base 4 to print (at least for 4R) which is approx 1.5 MP. So a 3 MP digitial is still capable of producing sharp pictures. It is the fundamental of shooting that determines whether the picture turns out sharp and not MP.

The firmware on wifey's A1 is still the old one. She seems happy with it. So not gonna up the firmware.
I agree with forbytes abt the sharp pictures - very cool and not one can tell if it was taken by a DSLR or an A1.
The vignetting I was talking abt is at the corners of the picture.It concerns the light falloff at the corners of the frame where the resulting image appears darker in the corners.
I have an A1 for quite some time already... But looking at canon's new releases and minolta's rumoured A2.....Oh well....Wanna get into the BUY BUY BUY trend...Wonder how much an A1 sells for second hand in very very mint condition right now ??? Together with a 3600E flash...
Just wanna ask u what's the very good advantage of using this DSLR?
As i'm only a Novice photographer, please advice what fuction should i use when taking night shots?
Also, how to use Exposure compensation as well, in what type of situation?

Sorry, but the A1 is not a DSLR. Its just a Prosumer Digital camera. Exposure compensation can be set in others modes other than Manuel...I am not too sure cause I never use it..Lol.
