MXF files must be converted into what format video files (lossless files)?

Dear guys,

I used a Panasonic P2 HXV202, shot a ROM at 1080/50. Using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, may I know can I preserve the detail when I convert it into a video file? Can I still retain the 1080 pixels after the conversion in Premiere Pro?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Convert to prores ? But filesize is doubled.

Every conversion can't be 100% lossless if i'm not wrong.

Hi,

Seems that I am lost becos in the Export > Media > Export Settings... I am unsure of format to convert, what video codec to use, Basic setting like resolution setting set to what (files all in 1440x1080), what field type & what aspect?

Seems that every setting I set, when export in Media Encoder, either there isnt video (just a music icon on Window Media Player) or video is in square aspect ratio which I didnt expect.

Whats wrong?

Update your CS4 and you can edit P2 natively.

From start of the project, what settings should be set? There are tons of settings like AVCHD 1080p 50i (anamorphic and non-anamorphic), HDV 720p...etc...?

Do I select the same settings I have shot the entire ROM, which is 1080p 50i? Can enlighten?

If you've shot with a HVX202, the mxf file's native codec is DVCPRO HD, file resolution is 1440x1080 @50i.
When you edit with native MFX files without transcoding, you should export to back to DVCPRO HD codec at 1440x1080 @50i.
Your timeline or project settings should be set to DVCPRO HD 1440x1080.

Your explaination makes me more understandable to this editing process.

Thanks!!!

I see... I need to compromise a bit too, we cant get the best of both world after all. I try AVI format and see how.

Thanks
