MP3 player with a very long battery life

Hello all,
I could do with some help here. I've been doing some research on getting an MP3 player with a very (maybe I should say very very very) long battery life. My main purpose is to take it along when I am travelling without having to worry about carrying a charger. Anything that can run 2-3 weeks with about 5-6 hours of playback everyday.

Many of the forums seem to recommend the Cowon D2. I could do without the video playback. But if it's there, fine. I don't think I will watch a movie on a 2.5 inch screen. Any users of Cowon here ? Can you please share your experience in terms of usage, response time and battery life ? Do you have to frequently upgrade firmware ? If you know a shop that sells the Cowon D2 cheap, please share too. Thanks.

Any recommendations other than the Cowon are welcome too.

As an aside, what do you think of the nuforce*ne-7m IEMs ? Planning to order them from the US - is it worth doing so OR the price in Singapore is more or less the same ?

Many thanks and have a nice day.

I am a satisfied user of S9 and the player does have long battery life of 60 hours (never tested it though).

You can find more infor/discussion at hardwarezone.

Here you can find the list of distributor who sells Cowon products.

Call them one by one and check for price and stock availability. You may find a good/decent price. I got mine cheaper than ordering from Amazon.

Get the new Cowon J3, its battery life is ridiculous. The hot IEMs now seem to be the Fischer Eterna.

Thanks for the info.

Both the S9 and J3 look damn cool. But they are almost the size of an iPhone, no ? I was looking for something smaller with a super long battery life. I would be using it just to listen to music and wouldn't want to be bothered with charging it for couple of weeks at a stretch.

The search continues :)

As much as I like my iPhone, I am super pissed off with its battery life. I certainly don't want to take it with me during my travels, or else every night I would have to put it for charging. What a pain :thumbsd:

bro, how much is your usage?

2 weeks = 14 days, with 50 hours claimed battery life, 3 hours a day enough?

http://www.overclock.net/faqs/126302-info-sonys-claim-mp3-player-battery.html

that's an old model, but sony has loads of these "long battery life" mp3 players. and they also have quick charge function, which means.. even if you forget to charge, you just need to pop it in to charge for a short time, and you can get some juice for a certain period of time.

Oh WOW !!! This is so cool. Exactly what I was looking for. You are a genius and a saviour.

Yeah, I would listen 4-5 hrs a day and probably charge it once a week or once in 10 days. This kinda thing fits the bill. And I am sure it won't be mighty expensive either. Lemme look at the latest Sony models.

Thanks bro.

Never go wrong with Sony :D

I am back to square one.

The new generation Sony MP3 players (similar to the link night86mare posted) have only 18 hrs battery life :(

And the ones that have 30 hrs battery life are priced S$200++

I don't need all those fanciful features, just a plain simple MP3 player with approx 50 hrs battery life.

Reminded me of one of my favourite quotations "there is no perfect camera, there is no perfect lens, there is no perfect tripod and there is no perfect camera bag" :bsmilie:

Looks like it holds true for an MP3 player too.

Life is full of compromises, and right now I am not willing to make a compromise.

The search for a simple MP3 player with super long battery life continues...

PS : Found that a similar query was raised in hardwarezone too last year. Looks like I am not alone in the search.

sony used to have the problem of having to use their own software or something. i can't remember what, but i haven't used it before, and my relative bought me a samsung mp3 player as a gift a while ago, so i've been using it for 3+ years now. :)

creative zen neeon used to be one model with very good battery life.

the zen mosaic is rated at 30+ hours here, but creative tends to overestimate, so that's probably 28+

here is a list of long-battery life mp3 players, but all of them have cool screens and play video, which is not what you need.

i was reading up on the mobiblu dah-1900, which has a rated battery life of 153 hours (that's sick), but i don't know, it is claimed to have bad audio quality.

but i don't know where to get it. that was released in 2006.....

thanks for doing the research, bro. appreciate it. I did find all these links too.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-NWZS545B-Walkman-Built-Speakers/dp/tech-data/B002LARSLG/ref=de_a_smtd

claimed 42 hour battery life, still available in the uk

suspect the problem is size - the cheaper mp3 players tend to be smaller, hence battery pack will be smaller, that would affect capacity somewhat.

maybe i will pick it up when i am in london next. the cost comes to around S$185.

its recommended price in Singapore is S$319.00 !!!

Try the Cowon D2 then. It's small and has a rated 52hr battery life to go with stellar SQ. If you don't mind a second hand set, should be able to get for about $100. Don't think you can get a new set any longer, and even then it probably wouldn't be worth it.
