MP Frame Counter Failure...again! What am I doing wrong?

I know it doesn't affect the photograph, but the frame counter doesn't reset when I take the bottom plate off.
I've had this problem before, brought it to Leica for repair, and it was fixed. I was told that a pin inside broke.
That was in December.
Less than 6 months, and it's happened again. Am I doing something wrong?

When I crank the film advance and it doesn't move any more, I know that the roll is finished.
Then I switch the switch to rewind and begin to turn the rewind knob until it comes loose.
Then I take the bottom plate off and the counter resets....

Now it doesn't reset, or resets to 10 or something.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The nice man at the Leica service centre who fixed it for me, told me that he's seen it in m6 before, but not in the MP. So I thought perhaps it's a rare occurrence, but for it to happen to me again... I think I'm the problem!

Its a big problem because its a MP n its a Leica n its new, complain n get them to fix this once for all!

So not user problem, but failing because it's an MP, and because it's a Leica, and the MP being their newest film model?

I've gotten it fixed less than 6 months ago, just disappointed that it failed again so quickly, so thought maybe it was me.
It worked fine for more than a year before.

Believe it or not, Leica has QC issues. Like any other company.

Do not believe all these Leica-hyping websites extolling the brand name as if it is infallible and perfect. There is no product in modern day engineering and supply chain that is perfect.

You need only google the internet to find Leica QC issues.

Actually, it is common knowledge that RF cameras (like Leica) require more frequent servicing and adjustment compared to other types of cameras. Problem is: many websites when saying that many Leicas still work despite being 50 years old - lead fanboys to misinterpret that Leicas can work for 50 years without servicing. Many Leica fanbois send their Leicas for servicing frequently, but simply do not say so. This has led to some unjustifable myths, often not explained because some people have vested interests in preserving Leica name. The myth of Leica being the embodiment of perfect engineering has become so strong that when faced between yourself and the leica brand - you have chosen to question yourself?

So, coming back to your OP, please do NOT think keep thinking it is YOU. It is Leica. For the amount you paid for MP, you do not deserve this. Do not doubt yourself. Leica make good cameras, but not good enough for you to doubt yourself.

Hmmm... so Mechanical Perfection isn't so perfect after all... I think its better to check with the guys at Leica Singapore if something else is broken or is there a proper way to handle the camera so that the problem won't come back again.

They were never perfect. The mechanical shutter needs to be recalibrated every now and then, so does the rangefinder itself. The only problem is the rabid fanboys. Go to RFF and you see plenty of them.

i had this same issue when i bought my (much cheaper) nikon fm2n.. gave it to this repar guy and he fixed it, and its been fine since - not sure why it'd happen repeatedly?!

Fairly common issue on m6 but on mp, that's new... :o

Thanks for the comfort everyone :)
I'll try to bring it in and get it fixed again!

Thanks. I'm loving my $200 Nikon even more now

Have the Black M4-P , never encounter that.

If you have bought it new, insist to have it fixed by parts replacement.
The mechanism should be a brass gear and sproket. Should not be that difficult to fix.

You mentioned a pin broke. If they fixed the pin only, that is not fixing the root cause.
Ask the mechanic to do a 3X5 why to find the root cause and fix it.

It's not new anymore :(

I had it fixed by the Leica Service centre when I was in Seoul, he said he didn't know why it would happen, maybe I used it a lot... but I haven't used it that much in the past 6 months since the repair, so that can't be the reason. Perhaps I'm too rough... haha :D Maybe it's the plastic part in the MP that broke :D
