Movie function/ button on Sony a7 series

Hi guys, do you experience the jerking when you start and stop the Sony a7s?

I find it frustrating because of where the button is located. At the end of the slider, the jerking always causes the extra work of 'editing' the last bit. I wish i can cut down on the work flow.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to program other buttons to replace the 'Record' button.

How do you guys work around it?

Not a big issue if it's not a 'Live' broadcast. I'm thinking of sticking a gob of red sugru on the record button to create a nipple. But there's a risk of accidentally depressing it during recording.

Yeah, other than the batt life, this was the other thing I found hard to get used to on the A7s. Found the placement awkward, plus it seems a bit too small AND it is recessed. Sometimes I thought I had pressed it but actually didn't. Maybe my thumb's too fat :bsmilie: Couldn't believe that they didn't allow users to customize the normal shutter release button for movie record.

Think you can look into 3rd party IR/wired shutter releases.

Sony has two products:

Older version: http://www.sony-asia.com/product/rm-vpr1
Newer version: http://www.sony-asia.com/product/rmt-vp1k

Sadly, the A7 mark II has the same problem. Sony should just upgrade a firmware to allow main shutter for recording when dial is in movie mode.

Thanks for sharing everyone.

Yes, hopefully a firmware upgrade solves it.

Don't understand your jerking issue.

I use the Sony RM-VPR1 as it gives me the most reliable connection. Using it on the A7 as well as the X70 :)
