the thing with new groundbreaking ideas is that you can only use it once as a marketing boost (I think I mentioned this in the previous modular Nikon thread that got removed)... so I don't believe any of the companies would resort to this until they have run out of gimmicks to sell cameras... why rock the boat when the money is still flowing in... unless some maverick jumps the gun, after which everyone and their grand aunty jumps in with, surprise surprise, the same new functionality...
look at the current new function, video on DSLR, or the previous new function, Live view... for the longest time, people said they can't be done or aren't economically feasible or no market for it, but once someone intros it, everyone jumps in... with video just introed, the camera companies might ration their gimmicks till the next push for revenue is needed...
