It has come to our attention that some shops are selling parallel import versions of the X-Drive II. Do note that:
1) They have no direct contacts with the manufacturer and hence servicing will go through a 3rd party which may be lengthy, difficult and troublesome.
2) They do not provide the car charger and have no intention of bringing in the car charger or any other additional accessories for the X-Drive II.
3) The AC adaptor provided is heavier, of poorer built quality and has no earthing properties.
4) Carry bag provided is not original, of poorer quality and does not carry the X-Drive II logo
5) No local warranty or servicing provided since parallel importers do not carry spare parts needed for servicing.

We, EastGear.com are the only official distributor of X-Drive II in Singapore. We carry the most stock of X-Drive II, offering them at the most competitive. You will not find a similar product at a cheaper price anywhere. We will not provide any warranty, servicing or sell additional accessories for units not brought from us

Advantages from buying from a local distributor
=================================
1) 1 year local (Singapore) warranty
2) 14 days 1-for-1 exchange
3) Local support (quick response and no need to email, make overseas calls and pay overseas shipping charges for repairs)
4) Access to accessories at special discount (only for customers who buy the X-Drive-II from us)
5) Free installation of harddisk

Note on extra Li-Ion batteries
=====================
I have been advised by the manufacturer that the Li-Ion battery is meant to be built in and NOT meant to be removable. Removing the battery requires unscrewing to remove the casing and removal of harddisk from the casing. It is definitely not easy to remove the battery while on the go and you would risk damaging the internal circuits if you change and swap batteries too often. It also does not make sense to keep a spare battery in case the original battery fails as it is a known fact that Li-Ion has a shelf life of about 1 year. Your spare battery will deteriorate at the same rate as your original battery. If your original battery do fail after 1 year, our company will offer replacement batteries for sale at a special price to our customers. We will also be offering an external battery pack that uses AA size Ni-MH rechargable batteries very soon for those who wants to prolong the usage of the X-Drive-II. Our experience show that the latest Ni-MH batteries outlast the internal Li-Ion battery pack.

Order and enqueries, please email xdrive@eastgear.com or call 96226876.

Doesn't faster speed = faster battery drain?

True, but a higher performance harddisk would aid in faster transfer from memory card to harddisk and from harddisk to PC, which would in turn reduce the operation time of the unit and save battery energy.

Anyway we are flexible and you get either the 4200rpm or 5400rpm harddisk installed into the X-Drive II.

Btw, just for your info, Hitachi has taken over (or merged) IBM's storage devices. Effectively, all Hitachi storage products were previously IBM's technology. Even the microdrive is under Hitachi now.

BTW

I bought a XD II From u abt 2 wks ago. Can I just get any 2.5" HD? i.e. the ibm travelstar 20G should fit right?
