MO: TAMRON 11-18 (Full-Frame compatible: 15-18)
I am interested to get the Tamron 11-18 after doing some personal research.
Heres some my summary/views, however brief, and perhaps to some, however subjective (***note here)..
1. Nikon 12-24
Pro:
1. Brand Reliability with quality assurance. period.
Con:
1. Pricy
2. Not so Full-Frame compatible (well least from some reviews came abt)
2. Sigma 12-24
Pro:
1. reportedly Least Barrel Distortion, if any
2. The only UWA with Complete Full-Frame Compatibility
Con:
1. HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY on the POCKETS..
2. BOTH POCKETS...the Camera Holder one AND the Wallet One..@ Half kg and 1.2k+-
3. Tokina 12-24/F4
Pro:
1. Didnt you get it??..constant aperture at F4 you know!
2. Rock Solid Build
3. 'hearsay' a solid repo dealer having at promo nowabouts, yet another one available in 'Greys' (not the COLOUR of the Lens duh!!)
Con:
1. think the second heftiest lens in the UWA cat after the Sigma 12-24
2. Reported CA issues, together with some sharpness issues..
3. again, not so Full-Frame happy, as one indepth report put it that this and the next Sigma 10-20 tend vignette heavily on ANY length on a FF/Filmer.
4. Sigma 10-20
Pro:
1. wha, When its wide, its REALLY WIDE @10mm (when 12mm is the widest rectilinear WA made - FF that is)..
2. ..and heard, when its REALLY WIDE, its STILL SHARP WIDE OPEN..
3. ..whats more, when its WIDE, WIDE OPEN, and SHARP, it still gets around to control CA surprisingly well, or so reported.
4. hey best of all, music to hobbyists and pros like, its really affordable at last heard 810-820?
Con:
1. more than a couple reports that Sigma-WA tend towards darken corners (almost vignetting)..personally experienced it, dont enjoy it as theres no real way ard it, lest the shoot environment is brighter lit or that the aperture goes down.
2. as mentioned, not Full-Frame friendly. Fact the report on the Tokina and this Sigma is 'severe vignetting' on FF, to the pt of shouldnt even be thinking abt it. somehow, perhaps costs issues, this Sigma has the smallest image circle of all UWA.
5. Now comes the Tamron 11-18:
Pro:
1. A good compromise of 1mm off the UWA-end of the Sigma 10-20. At the other end, believe most had 18mm up, covered pretty adequately.
2. Most lightweight and port-ty of all the UWA..coming in at abt <350g
3. This is perhaps interesting, of the above lens test-reported, this is the only one that tested, can offer a barest 15-18mm usuable still on a FF.
Con:
1. the very portability translates to some as a Build issue. personally experience says no issue whatsoever, again thats a capital P in Personally.
2. some others felt no big hoo-ha of the 'semi' FF compatibility..well..
3. last all, the very size of it means its a half-stop? slower from the usual suspects at 4.5 wide.
End of soft-sell, here comes hard-sell, I have gotten a good offer from a rock solid photo-retailer hereabouts for the Tamron 11-18 at...$880 (w/gst). Possible Payment be paid in cash, nets &..CARDS!! Transacts and receipts not by me, but by the retailer direct, so no major issue.
I like to ask here, how many fellow forumers would like to chip in and try for a Mass Order's luck to lower that offer.
Nothing deposited, nothing confirmed, just a vote of interest for starters.
If indeed theres not much interests, I would proceed ahead personally.
Thanks and for queries and OT, feel free post abouts, everyone would like to see what everyone else would want to come up with ..WHAT and by WHO. this would help the er..Neuro-Linguistical process to be a bit more positive hopefully.
by this post, I might have open up for good target practice for flaming..hence again, where i have inadvertantly offended or frustrated any party(s) hereabouts with my personal views or rather 'mis-views', I apologise here first, and kind point out KINDLY.
for the doubters, perhaps this link might help a bit la!..Tamron 11-18mm review: www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/tamron 11-18mm.shtml enjoy!
and Happy New Year to all
