Price should be <$950, depending if the custom charges any GST.

This lens is supposedly as good as the Canon L lens which cost >$2K.
I've checked with TWC and they are selling for around $1200.
So this price of <$950 should be a steal.

I'm going to place my order for the lens soon from HK.

Let me know if u're interested.

woah......damn good price. having thoughts of getting it.....but too bad just bought some rims, not gonna spending anymore till nxt mth.

I'm interested (for Nikon mount). What about the warranty?

I'm not sure about warranty but heck, at USD $500 inclusive of shipping cost per unit, the price difference is really worth the risk.

Konota is selling the lens for $1270.
Cathay is selling at $1300.

Quick! Place your order by 26 Dec!

Ooops...
Cathay is selling the new Tamron 180mm macro at $1300.
Tamron and Sigma about the same price.
Konota selling the Tamron @ $1280.

the cheapest I can find is $1220. so 900+ is really a good price, you decide whether you want to trade that for the warranty or not. or does sigma honour international warranty?

I read somewhere in dpreview that they do, at least in US. anyone can confirm if it applies here?

It's indeed a good buy at that price.

xdivider : This lens would really help you nail all them skittish butterflies! ;) Very silent AF with the hypersonic motor, and real-time manual focus to fine tune your shot. The only nitpick I have with this lens is its weight and with a DSLR, handholding it will be rather challenging. Let me know if you need to testdrive this baby. I'll bring it along when we next meet.

kenghor, just curious. Why did you choose the Sigma 180 over the Tamron 180?

Sigma has been around for several years and the price has come down. Tested and proven.

Tamron is new. Optics seems to be slightly better but built wise Sigma is better.

Tamron is several hundred dollars more expensive and I don't think it is worth the extra.

What I really liked about these 180 macros (Canon, Sigma and Tamron) is that these lenses comes with a tripod collar. Really useful when u need to frame verticle shots.

And not to mention that they provide better working distance and narrower angle of view and shallower depth of view.

BTW, the price should be below $900.
I quoted $950 to be on the conservative side.

Unless you're switching over to shooting birdies, the 180mm would be the one to get! If kenghor can get it at under $900, it'd be steal! BUY BUY BUY!!! :bsmilie:

And plus the fact that the Sigma is HSM driven. Very quiet AF. I use AF for macros too, so it's quite a big difference from the noisier 105mm Nikkor and Sigma that I use.

The tripod collar in the Sigma is also removable. Dunno about the Tamron.

I got mine when it was introduced, so the price then was about $1,300 then. :complain: Getting it for sub-$900 is really a good buy!

Thinking of using 80-400 with extension tubes and 5T with OS for holding at lower speeds. maybe get both ;P

if you can confirm that it it is indeed between below 900 (before GST), then it is a good deal and I may be quite interested. thinking about it right now...

When are you going to place your order?

thanks
