Equipment Brand: MO: Buying stuff from HK
Equipment Model: Cameras and lenses
Price (S$): NA
Description:
Dear CS members,

1. I will be making a short trip to HK from 12-16 May 05, and will drop by Wing Shing and Man Shing in Mongkok. In case any of you would like to get some stuff there, please drop me a PM.

2. You may check the prices at http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?page=photo/cameraprice.htm for a guideline on the prices there. I believe it's worth getting cameras, lenses, flashes and accessories there, especially grey sets. I will not be able to cope with large and heavy stuff like tripods, bags and large lenses.

3. The procedure for this is simple. Once you have decided it is worth getting your stuff from HK, place your order with me via PM. I will contact and meet up with you to make full payment before my trip. There will be a nominal $10 - 20 charge to cover transportation and possible excess baggage charges. The amount depends on the items you order. Any balance amount + or - will be settled when I hand over the goods with the receipts to you as I received them from the shop. Except for goods with sealed boxes, I will check the physical goods before leaving the shop to make sure they are OK. The goods will be hand carried into the aircraft and will NOT be checked in as luggage.

4. Please note that day to day fluctuation in currency exchange rate may result in small difference in the price when converted to S$. For items ordered, I can try to search for grey sets upon request and refund the extra amount to you. You can also instruct me not to purchase if the item is above a certain price in S$.

5. Most importantly, please only place your order if you trust me.

Attention to Moderator, please move this thread to Consumers Corner as I am unable to create a new thread there. Thanks.

Hi John

Does these shop carry Voigtlander lenses?

Most likely you can find Voigtlander in HK. I know they sell the Epson R-D1 rangefinder digital camera there that uses Voigtlander lenses.

To confirm, you may wish to contact Wing Shing: 2396 6886. If it's medium format lens, Man Shing: 2396 2996.

Cheers.

What is the cost of the above lens.
Also what is the cost of 150mm Sigma lens

This lens is really worth getting in HK . I myself is considering this ;p or the 80-200 2.8D. Not too big to carry back :) .

can tell mi the conversion rate from hk to sg $ ?

Some recommended items to get in HK:

1. SB-800 (around $515 vs $590 locally) ;p
2. FM3a (around $800 vs $970 locally) ;p
3. Lenses (eg. Nikkor AFS VR 70-200 2.8G around $2490 vs S$3,000 locally)

Grey sets will cost less and recommended especially if you are getting flash and lenses since they come with International Warranty. So you can get them serviced in SG.

Grey sets comes with International Warranty, but not the local warranty. Hence, the price is lower. However, there is no guarantee that grey sets are always available for every product. Note that for camera bodies, only local warranty is recognised. Hence, Nikon SG will not honor the warranty if it is purchased outside SG.

I see... thanks for clearing my doubt. Will work out my budget and hope to place an order with you! Upz for you ...

I really think you made a misconcention here, grey sets don't come with warranty (parallel import meaning they import these themselves), BUT the shop will give you a shop's warranty, however if you know the shop well enough, sometimes they will leave the International warranty card inside, which happened to me).....

Wing Shing sells 'official' products, thus their items comes with 'International' warranty.....

Just think about it: if one gets an international warranty, why pay more for a local warranty? International means: International, INCLUDING local :-), it just doesn't make sense......

HS

Note: Wing Shing does NOT sell grey sets......so you may go to other shops to get those grey ones definitely cheaper if you check prices first), which are perfectly all right, if you are confident you don't need the one year (or more in some cases) factory warranty.....

Try www.tincheungcameras.com.hk and others in that area....

HS

One more thing:

Only digital products come with local warranty (for Canon, Nikon and some other brands)........film cameras come with Int. warranty if you buy the official version......Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback, HS. My understanding is that they will include the International Warranty card in their grey sets. The reason that grey sets are cheaper is because they are parallel imported and the markup is lower compared to those brought in by the local agent. Hence, they do not come with local warranty card, but do include the International Warranty card.

Also, I understand that except for camera bodies, it is possible to register equipment purchased overseas at Nikon SG for warranty.

Anyone have any different experience?

Hi. I would recommend www.tincheungcameras.com.hk . Look for Ernest. they got shop warranty sets which i had tried, and so far no problem. :D And for one item i save more than 20%. :D But shop warranty one lar. :D

I don't want to cause banal talk in this thread, but I also need some info.

Is there a thread that lists the addresses and phone numbers of camera shops in Hong Kong? I would be there in June.
