I've saw on the internet of this new ultra zoom model Z1. The specs seems to be almost my ideal camera....10X zoom, fast focusing, VGA movie, night movie, manual controls, bulb exposure, powerful flash, use relatively cheap SD cards and AA batteries....and listed only US$399....

Any comments on this camera? Also considering fujifilm finepix 5000 and olympus C-750.

2 questions,
How fast is the focusing
Is the image noisey ?

Thanks to Larry for your kind offer. But personally I am more interested in the A1 than in the Z1. To those interested in the recent spate of mega zooms up to 10x, a word of caution is that optical quality is inevitably compromised by too big a zoom range. Flare control, distortion, sharpness and colour won't be as good as a smaller zoom, all other things being equal. Might be better off getting a 5x zoom like the sony F717 and use a teleconverter on those occasions when you do need the extra reach?

Hi,

Some qns about Z1:
How is the low light focusing ability?
Can u use optical zoom when filming movies?
How is the night movie mode?
What is the picture quality like? Comparing to Fuji finepix 5000 and olympus C-750.
I saw the pricing is US$399. How much will it be in sg?

Technically from the specs, it does seems to be the most fully featured and value for money ultra zoom camera out there. Are there any major disadvantages of this cam?

I'm currently using an old fuji finepix 2800z which has 6X zoom. The main problem is that this is really a stupid point and shoot camera with no manual control. It can't really take night shots as it has lousy low light focusing, the slowest shutter speed is 1/2 and it has only iso100 :(

Memory card is another issue, as u see the smartmedia card is no long in use. So my next replacement camera must use a memory card that is widely in use now and in the future.

Thanks :)

I'm looking around for a powerful optical zoom too... Seems like 10x zoom is not proprietary to Olympus anymore.... ;p

antone knows when it will be out in the market ;)

mmmm...............review..................

From the specs it does seems more feature packed than fuji finepix S5000, except it can't interpolate to 6M pics. Lets hope the photo quality is good as well.....I heard it is coming out in Oct.

Review please?? :p

I've been eyeing on this digicam as well. Wanted to get one ultra-zoom digicam for a long time. Panasonic Lumix FZ2 was my other choice, but it's on 2mp. Olympus I dun like the design and the image quality is questionable. I'm still looking forward to more reviews, but meanwhile, here's what I've gathered and posted on my website.

I think only the Minolta A1 has image stabilisation, the reviews for Z1 dont mention that it has IS.

Any idea when the Z1 will be selling in Singapore? It is already being sold in US, at US$100 less than the fuji finepix S5000! And from the dpreview forum, the users are giving good reviews about it....very tempting! :)
