well, a screen got 2 flat side, only one side will give proper focus, the other side will give you out of focus shot if you make use of of the prism manual focusing.

not sticky lah  , KM 5D use metal click to fix the screen. However there are one matt side though as some claim, but until now I still have no clue about which side is matt which side is not :embrass: .

Bro, any effect on the metering?
i read that the Haoda one affect the metering.

Finally ordered for myself and blueayz, price seem to increase to around $62 (including postage).

Not that difficult to put the screen on, though only one side will work, the other side will sure be OOF. find it a bit hard to adjust the prism circle area to the centre as the size of the screen is not 100% fix.

Used it for a few days, so far so good, quite easy to tell when the AF is wrong and refocus again. But still find it hard to use on f/1.4 or f/1.2 lens for manual focus, as the DOV is really too thin, probably need more practice to get use to it.

Hasn't try on slow lens yet, so won't know how's the effect.

Not very sure, need more testing then will know, may seem to be off a bit compare to usual, but on the 500mm f/8, it overexpose by around one and half stops. 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3, overexpose around 1 stop at 100mm f/4.0, 400mm f/6.3 at 2 stop?

Fast lens like 50mm, 85mm f/1.4, 80-200mm f/2.8 or 17-35mm f/3.5 doesn't seem to have much impact?

It may seem to be have something to do with slow lens???

Thanks ZCF for ordering for me too. Enjoying it so far. :)

The split screen has a matte side and a shiny side. To test this, try to get a source of light to reflect of it. The matte surface will not have a hot spot of light, or reflection, but the shiny side will have a prominent reflection.

And like ZCF said, it needs to be installed with the sides facing the right way, else thru the viewfinder it looks focused, but the resulting image will be very soft.

With the camera upside down, when installing the screen, the matte side is facing the bottom (i.e. the table top) while the reflective side is facing the top, facing the flip mirror.

Thanks for the info Bro...

sounds like some calibration is needed. otherwise compensating it either way will mess up your shot depending on which lens you use...

Don't think Sony will do calibration for screen not produced by them

Just got to remember which lens need compensate by how much

Faithful Minolta Friends,

I've recently become extremely interested in using M42 lenses on my 5d, and have possible access to many Carl Zeiss M42 lenses from a friend.

Can anyone recommend me a good means of achieving accurate MF?

1. Haoda's Split Screen
2. Haoda's M42 to Minolta adapter with auto focus confirmation (http://haodascreen.com/m42minolta.aspx)
3. Any other recommendations?

My primary concerns are the effects that Haoda's split screen have on the auto-exposure.

Also, over the weekend, I've tried MF-ing with my 50mm macro, using the focus confirmation light as a guide, but found it to be very tiring (which is why I switched from my Praktica M42 system to Minolta AF 6 years ago).:(

Thanks in advance.:)

hey guys, what about the M Screen? is there an M screen for the 5D?

thanks

last time i check with KM service centre, they say no M screen for 5D

guys, after considering all the options, I finally decided to order the M42 to Minolta AF adapter (with electronic contacts) from Mr Haoda Fu...

http://haodascreen.com/m42minolta.aspx

Receive the much awaited package yesterday containing a Standare & a Deluxe Adapter. (Mr Haoda very kindly offered to ship them to me without the extra international shipment cost).

the Standard is for 50mm lenses and the Deluxe can be set to 50, 80, 135, or 200mm. the focal length setting is needed to get the AS to compensate for camera-shake correctly.

I'm using the deluxe version for my new Pentacon 135/2.8 (pretty nice lens) and the standard version for my Super-Takumar 50/1.4 (may go for the SMC soon).

The only sad part is that there is no setting for 35mm :( need that for my new CZJ Flektogon 35mm f2.4...

so far, test shots using AS have been very promising... the focus confirmation light works great and accurately too. As Mr Haoda said, the difference between the normal adapters and these (with electronics) is like night and day :) mounting the 35mm to the standard adapter seems to produce images with poor AS compensation (as expected)... so I usually turn the AS off with using 35mm.

If you have any inquiries, can post here - I'll try my best to answer.

recently procured a Mir 20mm and CZJ 35is mm.
i only have the standard adaptor, but i havent tried it yet as i m out of town.
is there a real need for the electronic adaptor?

an electronic adaptor help with the focusing and AS, but you still can shoot without electronic adaptor.

it'll will help with focussing & AS for lenses 50mm (standard) or other focal lengths (deluxe)
