Minolta lens: which adaptor to buy for Nex 5?

I may be wrong, but I read somewhere that the Maxxum lens mount is the same as the Sony Alpha... I'm not sure if the NEX can recognise the electronic contacts of the Maxxum lens, if so and you want AF, you can get the Sony LA-EA1 Adapter...

If you dont mind, or no choice, have to use manual focus only, then can go for one of the cheap Alpha-to-E-mount adapters easily found on Ebay.

You are correct that Maxxum lenses share the same mount as Sony Alpha. However, LA-EA1 only works with lenses with SSM and SAM. Therefore, if one is to use a lens that doesn't have SSM or SAM, then you are again correct that it would be more economical to buy the cheaper A-mount-to-E-mount adapters and go manual focus
