If u intend to directly transfer all the footage from tape to the DVD why go thru the computer??To transfer from mini DV to DVD , what is the best and easy software to do it?
How much hard disk size do you need to transfer 60 min from mini DV to the hard disk of the computer? (before burning to DVD)

Just use a DVD recorder which is getting cheaper by the day and connect it via the cables and record / play the whole tape..
To be more specific,
1)Digitise/import miniDV to computer (3MB/sec) using Windows Movie Maker, choose DVI-PAL
2)Lay out in timeline
3)Edit + add transitions
4)Save to Computer, using DVI-PAL option
I assume you have a software that came along when you bought a DVD writer.
1) Start the burning software and select Make Movie/Video
2) Add in the AVI file
3) Make your menu (if you want to)
4) Burn
It's a long process as the software will first encode to MPEG2 file before burning.
Depending on your movie, it may take up to 4-5hrs to get it done.
BTW, I prefer to burn at the slowest speed as it will ensure usability on most players.
Hope it helps
If you are using a MAC , it'll be faster, easier and prettier![]()
Thanks. for your tips!
I have few softwares actually but never tried it.. coz I am not sure how to do it.
I have Adobe premiere and roxio. I just wanna transfer from my Mini dV tape which is 60 mins.. and transfer to DVD. What I understand you have to tranfer it to your hardisk computer first right.. do you know how much space needed for 60 mins movie to your hard disk?
60min Full Frame AVI Pal about 13gb
I am using windows vista Movie Maker (which detect HDV) and DVD maker. The result is very professional. The whole process is just record and burn. Everything is done by vista.
Sample screen capture can be found at :
Vista DVD screen shots
1 hr 15 min on a normal DVD-R is not high definition. These normal DVD can only store about 20 min of HD video.Thanks... someone did a DVD with High definition video, 1hr 15min, and the data size is 4.2GB. That's not so bad.. no need to have such a very big file. really nice...

In Vista DVD Maker, they will convert (compress) your video to fit the size of your storage media automatically. If you have 20min of HD content to store on the DVD, they will use up the full DVD. If you have 2hr of content, they will compress the video into the DVD. I find this feature not bad actually.
I personally converted 3 videos, one 30min, one 1hr plus and another 2hr plus, all used the full 4.2GB. I have shown the 1hr plus video on a large screen in concert hall, the quality is good, pics are sharp. The 30min video shows some improvement on the picture quality. But cannot tell over a small computer screen.
