Hi ,
currently I am looking for a camera jib which is light weight and cheap .So,I found the DSLR DEVICES JIB .Anyone here own this jib ? If got can give some personal opinion about this jib ?

Thanks .

I have it. Pros: fast to set up, very light
Cons: Dangerous to operate due to single screw interface with baseplate. Very limited tilt due to parallelogram design. Pricey.

You're much better off with a fotocrane from steady tracker. Or make one like this Frugal Crane 2.0 - YouTube with these parts:

Depending on the weight of your camera, you can use aluminium pipes or even PVC canoe oars from Gallen Sports.(Katong 112)

Does it shake when lifting the jib ? I am using 550D with 11-16 for video .

If I choose KESSELER Crane KC LITE 8.0 ? what tripod I need to attach to at least ?

You will need a head rated for the combined weight of the camera, the jib and the counter weight.

Kc lite I think need at least mid level spreader with head that can handle 10-12kg. (Assuming u are using dslr)

The most portable and easy to use jib/crane is the steadicam tango in my opinion.

So any tripod recommemdation for budget about 500 ?

i have the DSLR devices crane too. Its v light, we took it overseas and it was a great tool. Only issue can't tilt as mentioned here but for quick n dirty work, its good enuf. The tripod doesn't need to be hugh too, we use a Sachtler Ace. Can work with manfrotto CF tripod+501 too

So does the DSLR jib suitable for 5d mk3 with 16-35 .How many degree can the crane tilt ? Because I am just a hobbbylist for cinematography ,but I know that the kessler has much more performances than the DSLR but it is not a small unit . Anyway ,anyone here also have the experience with the Kessler also ?

hanracing>>> I have Fotocrane UltraLite and I have worked with Kessler KC 8 Ultra HD. I am just sharing my experiences. Hope it helps you decide or give you a better informed picture.

FotoCrane UltraLite
- Portable and very mobile.
- Single arm.
- Arm length you can adjust between 4ft to 8ft depending on your preference.
- Able to tilting contol via your tripod fluid head.
- The only complaint I have is the tilting to the left once I mount the camera. Even with 14mm lens. I am using 60D. With this effect, I need to compensate with the length of my crane arm or tripod legs. Which is not good. You may not achieve the full crane effect if you shorten your crane arm length. You may not be able to pan anything more than 180deg rotation because of the tilting.

Kessler KC8 UltraHD
- Better design than FotoCrane UltraLite. Good quality build.
- You can lock your crane at any height angle. It has that locking device. So you can concentrate on panning if you intend to do a sweep shot from above. FotoCrane UltraLite no locking device.
- No tilting problem as it is dual arm.
- Setbacks are not so mobile like FotoCrane and you cannot shorten the arm length. If you want the 4ft, you have to buy the 4 ft extension arm set.

Based on your first post, with the DSLR Devices, you won't have the tilting problem as the camera will mount at the centre of the single arm. I believe it provide the mobility like FotoCrane UltraLite. The only setback I can forsee, you are not able to do tilting as you crane up your shot via your tripod head. I may be wrong.

My advice go for dual arm. It is more stable and you will be more confidence to handle them. If you prefer single arm, go for the center mounted. Do not go for the L-bracket camera mount type. It may not be able to handle your set up.

I hope my post could help you in a little way. :)

Hanracing, ihave the Kessler kc8 lite too. We use 2guys to setup cuz the tripod needs to be bigger and its heavier to carry. As danialy said, the dual Arm option works better but that is more for bigger crew. Single arm tends to have the panhead off level so u need a heavier load panhead. We use both jibs with 5D2/3, no problems.

Thanks for everyone advise ,I think I will take the Kessler kc lite 8 .Then what tripod u guys recommemdation for the Kessler ?

go to Cathay Peninsular and try it out there. They have the KC8 on display with a hercules head i think. One of those lower priced manfrotto or Benro panheads above 10kg i think..

Ok,Thanks .So Kessler crane will fit in any head with 8kg load capacity ?

SO any tripod recommendation with the price not over 550-600 ?

hanracing>>> I agree with engr with regards to tripod head weight load. I, myself, is kinda blur. Just sharing. My general rule for finding out the minimum load that your tripod head should be able to hold is half of the total weight. Meaning, my Canon 60D with 14mm lens is roughly about 4kg. My counterweight has to be 3 times of it which is 12kg. Total 16kg / 2 = 8kg. So the fluid head must be able to take minimum 8kg at full length of the crane. If you shorten the length, the minimum weight will be increased. Don't be like me anyhow buy tripod without knowing the minimum load that it can hold. It is dangerous if you are using the crane with crowd around. Spend a little bit more on the tripod and head. It will save you the trouble.
