Actually "TTL" is a bit of a misnomer with the Sony cams (unless the 717 has it) because all the existing flashes do is to transfer the f-stop and ISO to the flash.

I agree. I recheck my settings for the TTL mode on the flash gun, it is possible to operate in this mode. Previously made a mistake of not setting to "GN" on the flash gun. However, I find that the output is too harsh, even when I reduce the flash power in the cam as well as EV compensation of -2! i.e. my subject is a white box with grey patterns in the background @ 20cm away from cam. Further, the TTL mode only allows me to operate the flash in the normal position, otherwise fire @ full power.

I still find the A mode best. Still detects the F-stop and ISO setting of cam. Nontheless, still has this aching problem of the built-in flash popping up!! Maybe dropping by CP to check if it persists.

Taken directly from the SCA 3602 manual

" TTL flash operation of a mecablitz with digital camera from Sony must not be mistaken for conventional TTL flash control of an analog cam. TTL flash control of external flash with TTL flashlight metering is not supported by Sony digital cam."

Whatever u do, test out the flash with the cam on the spot b4 u buy.

..which is what I did.. spent 30 mins at AP testing the adaptor before deciding that it's not really worth the $130...

Just tested on the same subject w/o the SCA 3602. Exposure just nice. However, have to set the F-stop, ISO and EV manually in A mode. But the adaptor is indeed convenient if one does not wish to manually set the flash, especially when taking moving target.
Guess what? No built-in flash popping problem w/o the adaptor!
:)

That's funny, the flash shouldn't pop up with the adaptor... :)
Anyway I wonder what Metz means by them having a M2 version of the SCA3602 (hopefully with TTL like the 717's built in one) but not having the manual...

What features does the F32X flash offer? Does it do a pre-flash to do TTL?

F32X only does pre-flash when u set red eye reduction to on.
It will behave just like the internal flash.

Did Metz flash does pre-flash before the main flash if red eye reduction is off?
