 Got myself a Sandisk Extreme III 8 GB CF card for my Maxxum 7d today but for some reason it says I can get only 82 pictures on the card. I called the sony help line and they said the 7d is not compatible with the extreme III card speeds. My 7d works ok with my extreme III 2 GB card giving me over 650 shots. Does anyone out there have the same problem as me.

I think the 1GB & 2GB ones are fine, but when it comes to 4GB and above, there may be a compatibility issue.

i have no prob with my km5 with transcend 8gb...just wonder if there any minolta user u knw of in yr area can do some testing

I don't think the 7D's firmware can recognize 8GB cards.

why the need for 8gb in the first place? firstly its all eggs in one basket, and it doesn't take a few secs to swap a CF card as opposed to film... i believe the power drain on a 1gb card would also be less than a higher capacity one? (heard/read this from somewhere before, not sure if its right)...

Hope it's not related to this
How to differentiate "real" memory card from "fake" ones?
Try it on another camera and card reader and see  .

I have use 8 Gbytes microdrive and Transcend CF card on my 5D before without much problems.

I'm ok with 4MB Transcend 120X card on my 7D... no reason for the 8GB card not to work. The hardware protocol should be there to recognise drives above 2GB in the firmware revision 1.10e/u.
