Some basic information on the company...

The major revenue for Cosina comes from providing projector lenses for major projector manufactures. That include LCD projectors. Cosina manufacture Zeiss ZF, ZM and Ikon bodies. The Zeiss products undergo the same production cycle as other Voigtlander items, using the same material sources, but different design and specification. That is why, CV products are such high quality and enjoy the high reputation as a superb manufacturer OEM for one of the most established optics company in the world.

Owners of the Voigtlander Bessas and Lenses are the best testimony for the lens quality.

I had a chance to visit the testing lab, where they project an image with markings through the ZM 28mm against the wall to test the quality of the lens. Compared with the Voigtlander lens, there is virtually no difference in image quality even close to the edge of the lens.

looking good chiifei
and thanks to Mr K, alot more people can enter the world of RF photography :sweatsm:

nice..

you know chiff, there is one question i've been wanting to ask Kobayashi-san.. wonder if you had the same thoughts when you met him..

"will R5A be a digital Bessa?" Or should it be R5D...

hope nothing was lost in translation...:bsmilie:

Nope.... no plan for a digital RF from Cosina.

Cosina doesn't have the resources to work on a DRF. Cosina has to work with someone like Epson to come out one. So far, till now, as far as what the marketing manager told me, there is no plan yet to collaborate with anyone on a DRF.

As for R-D1, Cosina involvement was to provide the body and shutter mechanism for the DRF. The rest of the electronics and sensor was from Epson & other HW vendor.

To come out with a DRF is not an easy thing to do. Especially with the current level of sensor technology, everyone is looking at a fullframe sensor. Leica took so long to come out with one that is 1.33x. And Leica is not an ordinary company, it has the financial muscle for R&D and yet with the technology challenges & advancement, M8 is still not a fullframe yet.

Had a chance to test the M8 with my 40mm/f1.4 2 days ago. I thought I can resist the poison. But it was so potent that I got suck into it. I have never seen anything so close to what I see with naked eye on the LCD screen. Skin tone was the same colour as seen with naked eye, white is white and black is black. Taken indoor, of cos, it takes a while to know the camera well and use the right settings to get the pictures look correct. The person who showed me the M8 knew the camera well and used the right settings.

What I was most impressed was the shutter. Although it was louder than the M6 and my Bessa R3M, the vibration from the shutter was so well dampen that it feels so good pressing the shutter release.

No wonder it sells for twice the price of 5D, though not a fullframe but demand is still so high.

The digital revolution has just started. One day, we will reach the stage where digital sensors will be like the 35mm film that we use today (or yesterday). Interchangeable and maybe disposable and of cos, affordable.

I think Mr K got the plot correct with affordable quality RFs. Not the standard of Leica, but with that price, you can't expect it to.

Preliminary diagnosis:
'CV-toxicosis'

Proposed treatment regime:
Anti-venoms to re-balance the system. Note that only CV toxins can counter another CV toxin... all other species would only act as temporary placebos.

Frequency of treatment:
PRN (meaning "when necessary"... from the Latin "pro re nata").

Length of treatment expected:
Until Finance Minister (otherwise affectionately known as Wife) decides to trim the Health Budget.

:bsmilie: Just joking, of course!

Many thanks to Kobayashi-san for the CV vision.
