from what i've seen, i love the straight out camera effect from the M8.

if i had the money, it would be my only camera. if u have the money, i'd say go for it!

once you go digital, the depreciation value is not controllable by you, it's by the market and most of all, Leica.

If Leica decides to launch the M9 then M10 within a short span of time, you DV is higher.

Whereas for film, it has already reached a level whereby, it doesnt really matter. All that matters, is that, if it has a red dot, it's damn retro and worth a bit.

However, the considerable trouble of film is that, it might be hard to find shops that develop them and post processing could be a little more tedious.

i dunno where to say this....

but just sharing with you guys, film shooters...

i just found a place that does processing of my film, and then a 16 base scan to cd real cheap...

first he quoted me $3.5 for processing, then $5 for a 16base scan... so its $8.50 a roll..
dropped off 3 rolls... paid only $21 ($6 extra for express, within the day, @ $2 extra a roll)...

I'm not too sure its cause i'm dropping off 3 rolls or what, but i'm going to try it again n see if i get $5 per roll... btw the negs i requested un-cut, so it might be cheaper...

yeah almost forgot.. the shop's at Simei East Point, the Konica Minolta lab on the ground floor around the corner... not the Kodak one, which quoted me $15 for a 8base scan only... :P

cheers

also.. still higher than a 10mp digi sensor... convenience of a jpg file... ability to go even higher from negs if need be... still bit more troublesome... but at $8.5 for total cost of processing, scan and film, i think its quite good... n best of all, your cam is still gonna be worth some money after the next few years....

Sounds good. What's the file size of each 16-base scan and you have any samples to show?
What's the name of the shop? :) Thanks!

Can't remember wat's the file size... above 1 mb.. ~2? really can't recall... but its about 3000+ x 2000+ pixels...

Fuji Superia 400.... These are slightly scaled down to 1800x1000++

Can't recall the shop's name... its around the corner near the entrance to the taxi stand.. its all blue Konica Minolta... can't miss it...

How much is the M8 now?

I don't think the M8 can be classified as any of the Digital cameras around town or in the 2nd hand market.

There must first be a supply before a price can be estimated. Those who can afford M8s usually will have enough money not to make desperate sales therefore not flooding the 2nd hand market.

Production is relatively limited and unless Leica go all out to roll them all out like their Japanese rivals, I'd say the demand will still be high in 2 years time.

Niche market, different rules. Just my 2 cents worth. :dunno:
