M8 w voigtlander lens or Oly EP3 w Leica lens

so what you guys think? which set up is better? which will have better iq? M8 with Voigtlander lens like the 50mm 1.1 or EP3 with Summilux?

i have seen great photos with Leica R 100mm 2.8 with EP3. just wondering would the m8 with voigtlander set be as good or better?

cause i've heard there are issues withthe m8 also?

Hi TS, Are you a gearhead ie. someone only interested in the hardware but don't really understand which end of the hardware is more
important? Or are you a true photographer? Take note that M8 and EP3 have different size of sensor and that means how big you can
enlarge your photos.Undoubtely Leica has the drool factor like having a babe for a date,but like all products it has depreciating value,
much more than if you bought a car.Both cameras have their merits and if you have the cash by all means get it but what's more important
it's the lens.If you can afford an M8 why settle for a cosina/voigtlanda? Get the lowdown from Ken.

On top of both M8 (1.33x crop) and EP3 (2x crop), there is the Ricoh GXR Leica M module and the Sony NEX 7, both 1.53x crop for you to consider as well.

The choices above would depend on what you are looking for ;

1) Image / Sensor quality
2) Ergonomics
3) Crop factor considerations
4) Size

Probably the last 3 cameras can be group together, the premium you paid for the M8 would probably be the rangefinder focusing experience and low AA sensor.IMHO I do not agree with using exclusively Leica lenses on M8, Voigtlanders are equally competent, i have attached a link below to a photographer who uses a M8 and 28mm ultron taking great pics.

The M8 is known to have issues, it was never known as a complete product coming from Leica, yet despite it quirks, its crop factor, it is still a relatively well built body (i own one) and i guess theres no right or wrong is really what you are looking for, a M8 and an ultron can produce really good images. I think if ur leaning towards the m4/3 direction you will need to understand that manual focus is not easy and the crop sort of waste half of ur lens capabilities. Ill say the Nex (from sony i know...) is quite a good choice with it's 1.5 crop and peaking focusing, if ur looking to slap ur leica glass to. At the end of the day, its really you who make the photograph?

having the M8 and the NEX, the focusing experience on the NEX isnt really as good as on the M8
even with the peaking function, i still cant really get the correct focus

ep3 and leica m8 are totally different.
I would still prefer leica, for the convenience using manual lens.
just give a try first for both camera on manual focus.

Completely different cameras with completely different experience.

I can tell you that shooting with my EP1 and VC lenses are just purely for fun, not so much "serious" work.

Its also very irritating to focus with the pen, not sure if the ep3 resolved this.

Like others say, different cameras, different experience.

Optically, it would be better to get an M8 with one of the better Voigtlanders than to get a Olympus with a Leica lens. There is little difference using the Olympus if you're only using the centre of the image field of a Leica lens. The M8 also has no Anti-Aliasing filter. But for the average user, I'd rather get an EP3 with the 12mm and some Voigtlanders ...

The focal length is also an important factor.

haha i m using an m9.. but if i were to choose between the 2 combos u listed, i will choose an ep3 with 25mm summilux dg + 12mm olympus f2. the 25mm summilux is quite amazing imo.. but also depends whether ur interested in manual focus and rangefinder experience.. 2 quite different cameras..

even better would be to choose an m8 with a decent leica lens ^^.

I would not do m4/3 or M8.

I would wait for GXR M mount module within 2 months and use GXR with leica or CV lens.

Otherwise, its a steep learning curve but you could get a film Leica body and shoot film. Film is very fun to learn how to develop yourself and its full frame.

Personally ive stopping shooting digital coz i enjoy film so much.
