Hey guys!

from what i posted at RFF:

I've been using a Hexar RF for the past year or so with no problems at all. Recently I've had some issues with vertical misalignment which i fixed myself, so everything was perfect from then.

Just today, while i was taking some photographs, the focus ring on the M-hex 50mm got stuck. It was initially stuck at the 3m mark but with some fiddling it could get past the 3m mark though the damping was rather uneven after that. I removed the lens from the body to ensure that the lens was at fault, and yes, the focus ring still sticks whether it's on or off the body.

Now it randomly gets stuck around the 1.2m - 1.5m mark, but with fiddling can get past it, though again, damping is uneven. It feels extremely damped at 0.7m, while towards infinity gets looser. It used to be perfectly even all round, so i know something's up!

has anyone had this problem before?

cheers,
Shaun

I a 50mm M-hex too, and it's butter smooth. No issues so far.
It's a second hand copy, but i might be the 3rd 4th or 5th user.

I think yours would be an isolated case, i've never heard of the M-hex having any issues like that which plague it when i scurry around RFF. Build quality for it is supposedly better than a 'cron.
Best lens in terms of quality in my arsenal so far. Oh and of course, IQ + bokeh is fantastic too.

Better get that lens checked!

just a normal service will make it smooth again. I think cam-x, de camera consultant can do it easily...

i had the same focusing issue but with my rolleiflex. A small screw from the light meter came out and stuck inside :dunno:

thanks guys, will probably send it in.

I didn't want to send it in to the shop because i'm not too sure of the standard prices for such a fix. Sometimes they tend to overcharge for simple problems.

I had the same issue with the chrome Canon 135mm f/3.5 LTM lens. Without trying to force the focusing helicoid, I tried to shake the lens a bit but could not hear anything. Took the screwdriver and open up the lens and found one of the tiny screws became loose. Hasn't fallen out, but it was protruding enough to cause the problem. Tightened all three screws and reassembled the lens. Everything was fine again and focusing is as smooth as new.

Cheers,
