Anyone here uses Lumix for underwater photography?

I am a lumix user and imported UW case for FX30 since singapore wasn't selling it.

However i was disappointed by the colours of the picture that turn out.

I did my white balance and set the "white balance" meter (pressing +/- buttons 3 times) to full RED. however pictures are still greenish. (but at least better than I had not set to red)

I white balanced a Canon 860 and all the colours turn out as I see the actual things.

Does anyone know if this is inherent in Lumix's way of assessing color values for the final picture?

Any photos to show ??

I don't have pictures from the 860 i mentioned. But on another occasion i had a G10 for comparison.

To be fair, I had both cameras white balanced using a white card. These 2 pictures are taken seconds apart.

I won't think because one is a G10 the other a FX30 (different classes of camera) was an issue as both are taken in the "P" auto exposure mode.

Generally, I find Canon's white balance is more accurate to the FX30. Further note is I am not sure if Panasonic corrected this problem for underwater photography to their later models.

And yes, the Lumix is white balanced... the un-white balanced from Lumix is worse.

This is from the Lumix

Personal speaking..... The Lumix gives you the normal view while the Canon, I believed, you selected the 'Underwater W/B Mode'.....

Btw... is flash used in both photos ?? If I'm not mistaken, theres no flash used with the Lumix....

Nope.. all are "fair parameters"

Both are in "P" rather in SCN UW mode.

No flash, my dive buddy and I do not believe in flash photography if we have no strobe. Hence we take pictures in available lighting but white balanced.

Just to run you thru, both cameras will be very greenish pre-white balance but things would be world apart after white balancing.

However, Lumix's post white balance don't give close colours but it did show a change from pre-white balancing (also screen will turn red on surface)

I believe it is Lumix's way of processing data from the CCD.

I just want to know if I missed out somethign crucial like some "buttons" i should have pressed.

Well.... if thats the case, then Canon have much better W/B.

Personal, I use my in-built flash for Macro photos before owning my Strobe. :bsmilie:

ya.. that's why i want to see if fellow Lumix user are equally experiencing this.

i did remember Panasonic Singapore specially set up a Lumix UW site.. but that has since shut down and they do not actively sell UW case as much as Canon does.

only now they are bringing in UW cases again for.. 2 models if i am not wrong.

I feel sorry if LX3 users bought expensive 3rd party case and experience what i am experiencing.

Additional slave strobes help to bring back the colors. So far it serve well as a compact.

Well, you don't have to be sorry for them. I personally knew a few divers who are proud to be LX3 owners with good quality pictures. One up for the Leica lens.

To clarify matter, I'm a Canon user...

yes.. my camera is ok if i use flash.

good that they have corrected the problem in LX-3 (assuming that they are not using strobes).
