Can all LTM lens be mounted onto the M9?

Yes it can be mounted on. You just need a LTM-M mount converter

Any LTM-M converter will do?

get one with that brings up the correct framelines

I see but I thought M9 have the manual lens detection then are there any different from using which type of adaptor?

yes but I am not sure if the manual lens detection will bring up framelines as well.

I see but will using the wrong kind of adaptor damage the M9 in anyway? Or is there any possibility that using LTM lens on the M9 will damage it in some way or another?

Get a good quality voigtlander adapter. The framelines are brought up by the matching adapter. Meaning, if you are using a 50mm lens, you need to get the adapter that brings up the 50mm frameline.

FYI

As far as I know (never tried it myself) LTM lenses with an infinity lock cannot be mounted on Voigtlander Type II LTM to M adapters.

I use ltm to m adaptors on the m9 recently with steinheil quinon sonnar and the fujinon ltms... so far no damage whatsoever, however be aware lots of collapsible lenses come in ltm, I would strongly not suggest that you collapse them for fear of kissing the shutter plane....

What you mean by collapsible lenses?

this is an example of a collapsible LTM lens, the early Leica summicron 50/2, summitar 50/2 and summar 50/2 are also similar. See the threads on the sides, it actually retracts into the camera body so that the overall profile is very slim. To use it, just extend and lock like a telescope.

I see thanks. So this is the only type of lens to avoid? What about lens like the canon 50 1.4 ltm or the nikkor one?

Those are fine. Most of the LTM lenses are fine to fit on the M9 or M8. Like Dan said, I will avoid collapsing those Collapsible on the M9. I've used mainly Voigtlander LTM-M adaptor which works fine on the M9.

These are the LTM lenses I've used:

Canon 50 f1.4, f1.5, f1.2
Canon 35 f2.0
Nikkor 50 f1.4, 85 f2.0
Hexanon 50 f2.4
Topcor 50 f2.0
Fujinon 50 f2.0
Leica 50 Summilux f1.4 LTM Jap ed.

May not damage but the tolerance level may not be as tight as the Voigtlander one which is really well made. Anyway, not much saving using a generic one vs. the VC one.

I see ok. Thanks. Now I can start looking for some nice ltm lens.

The lenses are too special to "avoid", you are robbing yourself of a great experience, they were purpose built for black and white photography which is a great pleasure to shoot on the m9.. just use it extended and locked just avoid collapsing it into the body. Just a quick note: only the Summicron 50/2 dual range does not couple with the m9, so do not make the error of obtaining one if you intend to use it on the m9. That's a m mount btw otherwise it's a spectacular lens for film m's or even m4/3s. The crons are renowned for the highest resolution ever, get the rigid/collapsible Summicron 50/2 instead

Honestly, with the price of the m9, a good adapter is really nothing in comparison...I wouldn't take that risk over savings of little more than tens of dollars

Hmmm...never heard that before...Don't know which type but all mine are mounted the Voigtlander ones.
