Lost my D5000 in Tampines

Hi guys,

Just to share my sob story... On 25th July I helped cover my friend's engagement party at her aunt's house in Tampines. Most of the photos I believe were my best so far considering she's a close friend of mine and I was prepared to make it into photobook for her as a gift.

Being so tired after the whole day being her hairstylist and photographer, me and another friend went down to the void deck to wait for someone to pick us up who unfortunately couldn't be contactable somehow for that few minutes. I was carrying a shoulder bag, a plastic bag full of food, and the camera in a lowepro bag that was without its sling cause i usually stuff it in my shoulder bag but that day my shoulder bag was full of hair and makeup items so I just carried the bag by the handle. Sat on a ledge for a bit, and I placed most of items I was carrying on the floor between my legs. We decided to take a cab instead and so walked to the roadside... and I didn't realized I did not carry my DSLR with me!!

We stood by the roadside and waited for a cab but somehow there wasn't one and my friend got hold of the person picking us up so we went back to void deck to wait a distance from the ledge where we were previously. It was only then that I felt I wanted to take a look again at the photos I took so far and realized it's not with me and panicked. Went to the area where I knew I left it and it's not there already. All gone in a matter of probably 5-10 mins! We walked around looking for it and looking at the people in the area but of course it's nowhere to be found.


*Sigh* And so I lost my friend's precious memories which she could only get from her relatives who were there as guests taking random photos. She was so-called ok cause she felt bad at me having lost my $1000 purchase due to helping her but I will forever feel bad also lor for not completing the task I was given just cause I lost the camera.

In the camera was also my own wedding photos and a video (which I thankfully already downloaded) and my school's CCA hiking trip @ KTM railway track (I'm the CCA teacher).

I'm hoping that whoever found it could track me down by the photos of my school by the uniform that has the name but of course the easiest is just to delete it and use the camera. I only have the charger left with me at home.

Lesson learned, always use the sling!

I am So Sorry For Your Loss, You Have My Deepest Sympathy. i hope some fellow clubsnapper found ur camera and post some of the pictures of it and u can find it back =)

You better make a police report and submit the Nikon camera's serial number in case someone try to sell it.

I don't think the police would go to every single second hand camera shops just to warn that this serial numbered camera is a stolen item.

Besides the one who took it could sell it online.

There's alot of stolen cameras cases nowadays. Best is to go to clubsnap BnS and start a thread saying that you lost your camera and provide a serial so that clubsnappers are aware of it.

I'm sorry but how would a sling prevent your loss anyway since you had already make the decision to place the majority of your items on your floor.

Besides the one who took it could sell it online.

There's alot of stolen cameras cases nowadays. Best is to go to clubsnap BnS and start a thread saying that you lost your camera and provide a serial so that clubsnappers are aware of it.

My friend lost her phone due to theft. Within 3 days, the police caught the thief trying to sell it at a second hand phone shop.

2nd hand shop must register the seller ID. That is how the police locate the thief.

To be honest, technically, the police can't do anything for you as whoever found your camera did not commit a crime(he or she found it, not purposefully steal it from you). Many years ago, I left my handphone on a bench after a BBQ at East Coast park. After I left the park, then did I remember about it and frantically called the number. A stranger answered and said that I must pay $100 to get it back. Reported to police and they replied the above. It is up to the person who found it if he or she will return to you out of goodwill.

Whoever told you told that is just bo chup or plain ignorant.

Look at the section under criminal misappropriation of property.

A person who finds property not in the possession of any other person, and takes such property for the purpose of protecting it for, or of restoring it to the owner, does not take or misappropriate it dishonestly, and is not guilty of an offence; but he is guilty of the offence above defined, if he appropriates it to his own use, when he knows or has the means of discovering the owner, or before he has used reasonable means to discover and give notice to the owner, and has kept the property a reasonable time to enable the owner to claim it.

It is bad, especially when the loss of the camera comes together with important photos. But if you have tried your best to recover it, no use crying over spilled milk and take it as lesson learned. (Be careful with your possession especially when you are fatigue as that is when you lower your guard down most.)

The least is that even if im sitting down wherever it has a higher chance of the sling remaining around my neck and shoulders instead of just by handle.


I had my IC stolen three times. Stolen. And not even left behind forgotten anywhere. Each time has a looong story attached.:cry::cry::cry:
Now my so-called logic is to leave it with mummy dearest.

I think a higher likelihood would be that the person who found it will use it for him/herself. Just need to go find the appropriate charger somewhere. From what I've seen in BnS here the D5000s on sale includes the full set with manual/box/charger. Even if without manual/box at least have the charger. My colleagues using other and older Nikon models can't even use my charger.

Photocopy your IC in Black n White and bring that out.. Never in colour as its illigal. I was advise by the ICA when I loss my IC. keep your IC at home in a safe place
