i'm using Sony Vegas 7.0 to edit m2ts files, may i know whats the best format should i save my work as? :)

You mean final render format? That would depend on how you are showing the video (e.g. web, DVD, projection from PC etc).

Or if you mean lossless to keep as a master, you could use Lagarith which is a free download. Personally I would not bother rendering a lossless master, I would just archive all the project files so I could re-render in future, and maybe tweak the project if necessary. Of course if your render time is very long I appreciate why you would want to only do it one time.

abit blur...if i render my m2ts file in sony vegas how do i use lagarith?

The reason I mentioned Lagarith is that your topic title says lossless format, and Lagarith is a lossless codec.

In Vegas, after you edit your project then you can render to various output formats. If you have downloaded and installed Lagarith codec, it will be one of the choices when you select to render as AVI file.

When I say edit your project, I mean that you will have the m2ts files on timeline, trimmed as you want and with filters, effects and transitions applied if you want these. But if you are just trying to convert m2ts files into a different format, then perhaps Lagarith is not the best solution for you. Maybe if you can explain what you are trying to do I can provide better advice?

thx for ur reply again!

wat i mean is after i edited(trim, effects) my m2ts files in Sony vegas, which is the best format (highest quality) should i render. as i can't render in m2ts format.
Or is there any program that i can edit m2ts files and remain as 'edited m2ts' files.

OK, so you edit your project and you want to make a file that can play smoothly so that you can enjoy your creation, right? For playback on a PC, I would recommend either WMV or MP4 format. A resolution of 1280x720 and bitrate of 5Mbps should give you very good results, although you can adjust lower if the filesize is too big, or higher if you want even better quality.

For viewing on the web, well actually you can upload the same 1280x720 file to places like Vimeo or Youtube. They will compress them further, but bo pian.

If you want to play your video on a plasma/LCD TV using a good media player or BR disc player, you could try rendering at 1920x1080 using m2ts AVCHD files. In theory this full HD should be the best, but in practice may just create more problems.

Vegas should be able to render to any of these formats, although I'm not too sure about what Vegas 7 can do with m2ts files. You might want to look at upgradng to Vegas 9.

as above said, depends om target audience.

for web, quicktime/realplayer/wmv/mpeg4/divx and etc. There is even mkv and ogg if you want to embed content.

for dvd, mpeg2

for broadcast on tv, something else already.

personally, i ask clients what they want to do with the footage and then encode accordingly. eg, if they are targetting mainland china web streaming then .rm would be my recommendation.

hmmm...vegas 7 doesn't have the option to render into m2ts file. guess i need to upgrade.
