Looking For Your First M?

Wow... very well written and informative.
Many thanks to you for sharing your opinion!

My recommendation for first M is M6. Got meter better for beginner.

Well, there's always the Voigtlander Bessa line. They have meters, and you can get them new for under a thousand.

Nowadays the price between an M6 and M7 is so minimal that those who want familiarity can go with the M7.

Honestly in some aspects I do prefer the M6 over the M7 though... though the M7 is still my go-to camera.

Just got an M2 recently and have been using the sunny16 guideline.

Can anyone recommend a suitable light meter that would be good to use together with the m2? I don't really like the light meters that are mounted on the hotshoe, so maybe something from sekonic or similar?

VC II you can keep in jeans pocket or mount on hotshoe

if u want incident meter, u can get sekonic, gossens etc, but they are bulky. the most compact one is sekonic 308

Dido on the VC meter!

Art, actually the most compact is Sekonic 208.

I have a vc ii as well, compact and easy to use, but i don't like to mount it on the hotshoe. nowadays i just use iphone light meter app.

dont need to keep the vc meter on the hotshoe all the time
i just took a reading from it outdoor and just stick to it throughout the day, if i move indoor, either i took another reading or i just drop 2-3 stops depends on the time of day.... so far still seems pretty ok for black and white film, although there are a few shots still goes under or over expose. but i find that i learn to judge the light more in this case.

opps, it should actually ready as "looking for your first leica M?"
