sorry,i accidentally closed wrong thread, anyway,as i was sayin, basics?as in the relation between ISO,aperture, shutter speed etc?

IIRC there is a way to "unlock" threads that you've accidentally closed?

I believe what he meant is, AD photography can't be a field for teaching, as many moments have to be caught at the instant, and there are no re-takes. Hence your basics, like using the right exposure, shutter speed, position of flash (high celling churches cannot use bounce flash), aperture settings, have to be well-established before that. Knowing the proceedings, as to anticipate what's going to happen next, is also very important.

Still remembered one of the weddings, the main photographer missed the "kiss the bride" moment, as his flash wasn't ready. Luckily I got it, and sent it to him.

I think I did pretty well, as a first-timer being main photographer. Got to call the shots, literally! The LCD preview on DSLRs were of great help, as I guessed the bride was tired, and her eyes looked shut in many pictures. Luckily I could immediately re-take many of the family shots.

The couple busted their budget on the studio shots, by over S$1k. Hence they got no budget for AD photographer, and asked for help.

I think Mat was asking to tag along, as to have an opportunity to use his creative juices to take some non-conventional shots? It's true that main photographer will be very busy, and don't have time to share much until break time.

I hope you've done the newly weds some justice. If not, it's also not your fault anyway. I'm sorry if I have crossed you, but I just feel sad that couples are doing this nowadays.

Back to the discussion, yes, the main photog won't have time to guide the ones tagging along. May be a few tips here and there during rest time, but most of the time, he will be very busy with the shooting.

If TS wants to tag along, better know your basics. If not, no point even giving you tips, as you won't know what the main photog is talking about!

Well, I think if you have managed the couple's expectation, then it's OK. I'm not saying you won't do a good job of course, but rather it's how the couple expect your photos to turn out at the end that's more important.
