Thanks

Possibly. Where is the camera rental centre located?

south bridge rd. but they rent, dun think they sell. Sennheiser mke400 or rode video mic? hung bros at 3rd floor sim lim sq should have.

Rode NT-series shotgun mic or any other longer shotguns will be too long and will protrude over the lens. If got wide angle, mic will be in shot.

best is to go back originally included sony mic or like what they suggest, the smaller MKE400.

can actually mount the mic higher up so should not protrude marhz. and rode video mic onli slightly larger than mke400.

hey guys - thx for the feedback.

Another question therefore comes to mind - what would be the smallest but still good quality mic to get for the Sony vid cam?

What Videoman said is true...I used to have the A1p and when I mount longer shotgun mic like the ME66, the mic will be in shot.

The A1p's mount is at a fixed height, so not much room for height adjustment unless you opt for 3rd party mountings.
When you mount your microphone higher, you may not get an optimal pickup especially if you are filming people's conversation at eye level....a raised mount will pickup sound from the top of the head. Not very efficient. :)

The Sennheiser MKE400 would be a good recommendation but it doesn't require your XLR module.

Hehe, eh paiseh nvr see properly, thought u wanna rent. Erm i dunno where got sell, but u can PM jason to ask him. (Go look at the commercial service offered section and u will find him). As for this mic, not too bad IMHO. When u mount it on the video cam, it will not be in your frame, so no worries. But you do need some decent video editing programs to bump up the volume and do some audio cleaning. If you are juz going to play straight from the camera, chances are you can't hear it clearly coz volume too soft.

Hey evolution - been playing with IMovie. Seems okay. It's the first one I've played with and still learning.

My first mic got crushed (think it was the ice!).

Anyway - thanks guys you've given me enough info for me to go out and get another x-mic

Hehe, me nvr use imovie before, i use magix movie edit pro 10. I know kindda back dated lah this software, but well it works for me, yea. IMHO, the sound cleaning in movie edit pro 10 is pretty good.
