I wish to take up commercial photography but before i put myself into it, i thought it will be good to have some 1 that can guide me through or allow me to follow for events or wedding.

Please let me have your contact if you are willing to allow me to learn under your guidance.

Thanks :D

Commercial, event and wedding photography are 3 seperate areas of speciality, especially commercial photography. However, some junior commercial photographers are rostered to cover events/weddings, and some wedding photographers are willing to accept events assignments during lulls.

Which, exactly are you looking to learn?

Hi,

I understand that this areas are really quite broad. What i am looking for, is a professional photographer that i can tag along to during events. To learn photographic techniques like lighting control, framing, interaction, etc, before i can go on my own for assignments.

Last time I looked, event and weddings are NOT commercial photography.

Hi,
You cant just tag along to events and learn..
Its their event and i dont think they will like it if you have come to LEARN.
The original photographer sure will kana slash..
If you are willing to learn, just go on events with NO CAMERA.
Just become his assistant.. carrying bags la, lens la... get him drinks... etc...
Start off with that to gain the experience of a shoot event.

Cheers,
Ray

Hi,

First identify photographers that do events.

Keep on approaching them via PM, emials etc and state your interest.

Normally, on non-critical shoots, some of them wouldn't mind someone tagging along just to assist/observe.

All the best in your search, and don't give up looking. Sometimes, it's just a matter of timing.

Hey, you will never get a pro photographer to offer you a deal that way.

You got to do your research, piece together your portfolio, and impress the photographer enough for you to help him.

Good luck on that.

As opposed to learning on the job.... (which some mentioned might be tricky because commercial photographers wouldnt trust anyone else but themselves to do the job well) I would recommend you do a course on photography in general.. There are many photographers out there fully capable of tutoring you in your genre of interest at a cost... and from then on, find your own intepretation and move on...

Even when working (or tagging along) you would still be required to have your own flair in composition and direction... (especially in the case of events and wedding photography).. what takes years and tens of thousands spent in learning photography in school and on equipment, will very seldom be taught free to anyone wanting to get into the trade...

That's my personal 2 cent... I dont shoot professionally, so i'm fine sharing my thoughts.. for the others that do it for a living... these opinions would surely beg to differ.

Good luck :)

Ejun
