anyone got any update of the Local & export price for Sony ex1 ?
Does it come with 16gb sxs card ?

9.6k local, 8.8k export. not 16Gb inc

Hold yr horses, the EX3 is launched next week. Going for11k plus. Much better handling and ergonomics

just came back frm the launch..
its quite a bulky camera with additional features that are pretty quite impressive, great low light, lcd-viewfinder, magn/peaking/histog, and much more..

but i must admit i think the workflow would kill me if i didnt use fcp, becos there requires alot of conversion if ur NLE doesnt support mp4

they also launch the really sweet ext. HDD that u can run with ur sony batteries, now you can record directly to HDD =)

But I would seriously consider looking at Panasonic HPX-170 before I decide if the EX3 is what I really want. I would take DVCPRO anytime.

Been using EX1s and placing more orders now...I think the recorded and output quality of the EX1/3 totally beats anything in the competition, plus variable frame rate...I can't think of anything in the competition that's close.

Agree that the EX3 is more bulky...the EX1 is already quite difficult to handle handheld (esp with wide angle attachment). But still the EX3 has its use...ordering some..

:bsmilie:

Back to the price...someone said 16gig not included? Sony just changed the standard package to include 1x 16GB instead of the 8GB and lowered the EX1 price...around 9.x to 10k.

Ya the EX3 looks pretty nice, especially if you add the hard disk to the package. It is bigger than the EX1 but is better balanced for handheld and has the shoulder pad for stability. The viewfinder will not win any prizes for style and elegance, but it is very effective. The image is superb, very sharp and with natural colours even in low light.

This file system seems crazy though, MPEG2 in an MPEG4 wrapper. If you have to convert all the footage in realtime (as in the demo today) then the advantage over tape systems is very much reduced. Hope Sony can improve on this aspect.

Wow thaz a nice price drop! Didnt hear them talk about it thou. That is warranty price I assume? The current export price is still 8.4k as I heard today.

Richard, the conversion thingy is something the NLE guys will work on eventually I think. IF u have a laptop with express-pci, it is super fast compared to converting on the fly from the cam.

Some folks copy the entire folder to HDD for sbackup, and convert to mxf from there. It will be pretty fast as well but working directly from expresscard slot on a laptop is as fast as it can get. I have managed to do it in record time compared to tape.
