hi guys, currently i am considering three series from lowepro, need those who used them for their kind opinion.

  • Slingshot
  • Fastpack
  • Flipside

Slingshot, i feel that it is quite fashionable, but i am afraid that it may not support the weight... only 1 big strap... like a normal sling bag...

FastPack, hybrid between slingshot and flipside? hmm... the camera compartment is rather small, as half of it is for accessories?

Flipside, good for long hour carrying, and maximum compartment, but hard to access the stuff inside..

haven consider thinktank yet...
what do you guys think?

the prices are as below(from one of the thread):

Flipside 200 - $93 (CP March08), $79.45 + 7% GST (CP Xmas Promo)
Flipside 300 - $123(CP March 08)
Flipside 400AW - $150 (MS Oct 08)

Fastpack 100 - $78
Fastpack 200 - $105 (TK Photo 3 Sep 08)
Fastpack 250 - $145 @ J316 (APR08), $130 @ MS AMK Main (JUL 08), $126.00 + 7% GST (CP 13.12.08)
Fastpack 350 - $150 (AP-F), $150 (MS)

SlingShot AW 100 - $68 MS
SlingShot AW 200 - $98 CP / $89 TK / $80 AP / $85 MS
SlingShot AW 300 - $140 - TK

I have the Fastpack and love it. Originally wanted to get the Flipside but I thought having the whole weight on one shoulder might be tiring. One downside of the Fastpack is that it gets hot at the back after walking for a long time.

hi, hmm... i think all backpack has the problem of getting hot at the back after some time?

Not really, I own this slingshot 200AW, its still alright after carrying sometime.
The only reason right now thinking of changing to a rezo is that when u go ard in train o public transport, disadv is its bulkiness..
at least rezo is still able to swing ard easier, unlike the slingshot,

the backpack style serve well when you going a walk about on a longer journey, will "tagged" to you more securely. IMO

I used to use shoulder bag, but after replaced with Flipside, it makes my overseas travel so much more enjoyable without getting sore shoulder muscle from my 5kg equipment.

ok... hmm... do u feel that it is very troublesome to take things out from the flipside?

For easy access, shoulder bags are the best, because I used to have one. But then, I'm not a journalist, so quick access to the camera bag is secondary. My camera is usually hung around my neck, while other equipments and stored inside the bag. Imagine if you are going to places like Tibet or Europe, where you need to walk long distance and also climb up and down those old ancient sites.

Which is more important? aching shoulders or ease access?

Other plus point about the flipside, the design of the zipper is placed near your body so it gives better security in a crowded place.

Try to get the Flipside 300 if you can, so that during security check at the airport, you can throw in your wallets, keys, mobile phone etc. inside the bag for x-ray scanning. Need not worry about your belonging being stolen. If the security detects something in your body, they may request you to your shoes removed, belts etc. it is a waste of time and also holding up the queue.

my collection so far just d90, kit len, 50mm, plus now a sb600
planning to switch to 180. 190 too big.

200 is the medium, 100 is small.. consider 200 slight fatter

make a lot of sense, especially the overseas part,
hmm... then it narrow down to either flipside or fastpack...
cos both of them are backpack...
flipside can store more camera stuff than fastpack of the same capacity rite?

Y do you think Flipside doesnt have quick access to gear? I find that the fact is, it is slower then shoulder bag faster then normal backpack.

reason is you can buckle up the waist buckle and remove your bag from your shoulder and access your gear without putting it on the ground.

isnt it better and cleaner?

agree!!!

I am flipside owner too... I used to own flipside 300 and now owner of flipside 200 and 400AW

but of cuz I have my fotofile shoulder bag too... <--- my favorite

i just notice... only flipside can hold tripod?

Hi TS.... I hope this helps

Recently I just return from a Bangkok using Lowepro Flipside 400 AW. Must said.... one of the best camera bag I've used. I also own the slingshot 200 AW, but as you already know.... it can't carry more than 2 to 3 lens.... and not my longer 70-200mm L lens. Worst, the slingshot doesn't allow you to easily change or remove other lenses inside your bag.

Go to Lowepro website to see that interesting video on Flipside 400 AW. See the part on how you could change & remove lenses while still standing up, with the bag still very much on you. I follow their video and found it working as they have shown. Serve me well during my trip..... need not remove or lower my bag to change lens.

My 2-Cents worth

I too own a Flipside 300 and has served me excellently in my travel. Extremly easy to change lenses while still attached to waist in front of body and eliminates the need to put the bag down.
