I'm a noobie with dslr. Just bought my Nikon D40x earlier from a shop in SLim Sq with a wide angle lense (ED-Digital Plat 1 0.45x). I thought I got a really good deal until I told my friend about the lense I just bought for S$200 and extra 5200maph batt for S$180. She said I should go for Nikon lense bcos D40x only supports AF-S and ED-Digital lense shouldn't cost that much, likewise with the batt. Anyone has any info on the lense mentioned? I'm really upset....:cry:

A battery for 180 is definitely too much.
The lens that you mention doesn't sound like a lense, more like a screw-on wide angle filter.
Anyway, doubt there's much you can do about it altho you can still try with CASE. Perhaps you can name and shame the shop here.
You Gotta really be-careful when its Sim Lim Square. Hope someone can help you regarding your case soon. As for me I'm not familiar but I suspect your friend might be right. If thats the case you should either go back to the shop ASAP or else try selling it away. Batt wise I don't think it costs that much either. I'm sorry to say that you've been had by that shop. You can search the Consumer Corner of this forum and find the many complaints of shops in SLS. Would you like to name the shop you bought from? You can also read up on how some people got their redress on such matters, and you may want to take those steps.
The original Nikon battery for the D40x costs $65 at Harvey Norman. I bought mine from HN previously. Any 3rd party battery would cost less, maybe about $30. Also, the "wide angle lens" is actually a wide angle adaptor which you screw on to the front of your lens. It should look something like the picture in the link below.

Classic con case, I was a victim of something like that at peninsula for the wide angle filter vitacon brand which is really lousy and shouldnt cost more than $100, although that was only $170 but I suggest you go back to the shop and speak nicely to them, be firm but dont shout and tell them you think you have overpaid and ask them to refund you the money or you will go to case. Most importantly keep the receipts well. Tell them you have done a check at Harvey Norman and the price is only $65 for the battery if I am not wrong. Be firm and do not lose your temper even if they raise their voice, tell them u will go to CASE and if all else fails, go to CASE, even if you dont get back the money at least the shop will be blacklisted.
grr, the more i think abt it, the more I feel infuriated, reminds me of the time it happened to me. Tell you wat if you dun feel confident abt going down yourself, pm me and I will go down with you! I hate shops like these. My advice is from now on only to buy at established places like John 3:16 or Parisilk.

All in all, I paid more than $400 in total for the screw on wide angle lens ($200 - which they had the cheek to tell me was originally $1399. T thought I got the bestest deal in town), $65 for UV protector (I later found out I could get it for less than $20), ITTOU 5200maH battery ($180). I trusted them becos they offered the best D40x kit package deal ($880 incl bag, lens, 2gb card, gst) but they chose take advantage of my trust. Thank you so much for the advise. I probably should have posted my intention to buy here and get help to go with me. I'm seriously considering to lodge complaint against them at the consumer tribunal. Will read up on other threads for input on how to go about. Really really upset.... ;( :cry:

BTW, the shop that I made the purchase from : BALLY PHOTO .. they have two outlets of the same name, on 1st and 2nd floor respectively. I don't care if they are reading this.. I am only stating the facts. If they read and wish to clarify, by all means pls do. In the interim, I'm compiling the bullets for a strong case with the tribunal / CASE. The only shop that is safe in SLS is Alan Photo. The others are con shops. Sorry to hear about you being cheated. Next time before purchasing any photo eqpt, log in to Clubsnap and ask around first.

Is the battery original Nikon or OEM? If it is OEM, the battery should be in the region of $30+ at most.
As for the wide-angle adaptor 0.45x, price should be in the region of $85-$110 depends on brand.
Now only hope that the D40x is a authorised Nikon Singapore stock, ie comes with proper warranty card stamped Nikon Singapore and not from other country. Cos there would not be any warranty if it is a imported set. If not wrong, there should be 2 warranty cards. One for the camera and one for the lens. And also for the lens warranty card, the 3rd piece should labelled Nikon International Service Warranty' card, cos all lens comes with international warranty. Whereas the 3rd piece of the camera body warranty card will only labelled as 'Nikon Service Warranty'.

I just had a bad shopping day yesterday at SLS and Peninsula and I must say, there are damn 'lao jiao' sales people, if you're weak, you're gone man. The sort of tactic they use...I mean, ya la business, but can really go overboard if they feel they can.
