Lens - FX or DX

Gotta weight the possibilities of you switching to FX though. The prices of FX lenses are pretty steep, not considering the price of the D3/D700 bodies. D300 is probably gonna last you a good 2-3 years if you're not fussy. Even if you go full-frame, the D3/D700 has a DX mode which you can use but limited to 5 megapix pictures.

I have started to be dissatisfied with the image quality (sharpness and distortion). Hence I intend to "break up" this range into 2 lens and keep this solely for oversea trips.

The FX or DX decision is purely yours as it involves quite a bit of money and also whether you need it.

If FX then the trinity lenses.
If DX then the 17-55 or third party equivalents plus a longer lens with VR.

1) What is your comment about this whether to buy DX or standard Lens

2) What is the best 2 lens to "break up" my 18-200 that delivers sharp and low-distortion image? I was thinking of 16-85mm DX + 70-300mm standard Lens initially, but now that I struggle with the DX decision, the 16-85mm DX doesn't seems to hold water.

This may have discussed elsewhere in other threads (i don't seems to locate it so far). if it does, pls do direct me. Pls comment. Thanks.
DX lens are designed and made for DX cameras, by the time u sell yr DX camera and move up to FX, u can also sell yr DX lens at the same time, so if u intend to use D300 for the time being, it looks alright to get the 16-85 DX & 70-300 VR combo, both are good image quality lenses. In fact u may also consider to add in the 12-24 DX, that should give u plenty of photography mileage.

This is the limitation that I'm trying to think about. Thanks.

Thanks for the sharing. I was initially considering this possibility, but would like to gather wisdom from the forum on this matter. I'm glad that some of these comments has set me thinking whether this option is the best moving forward. Thanks.

Will give it a deep thought. budget 2k at the moment. If needed, will go for 1 lens now (if this can't afford 2 Lens, will continue to live with 18-200 as zoom and replace only the shorter focal as its more useful for some of my event and wedding shoot). Then when more budget arrive, go for the good zoom.

If you can still live with 18-200, then continue to use it. Selling it will incur quite a loss.
