I saw a Nikon 18-135mm selling for 220 but the seller say There are 2 small specks (black dots) that will show up at f/14 at above. shooting into light at f/8 and beyond shows nothing and send it in to NSC for cleaning.
issit worth it

Are you going to look at every BnS thread and ask whether it's worth it?

If so, then guys, be prepared for a long thread.

no. NSC cleaning of lenses are not cheap either.
wat about the 18-70 at a price of 230
but at 260 he seller throw in a 62mm UV filter for the lens
worth it?
cos i am a newbie and a student
advise

just asking as you guys have more experience than me.
Sorry if it is very annoying

Check the list price in the respective sub forums.. then guage the price whether worth it or not.. All these "worth it or not" really depends on the condition of the lens which we will not know until we see it physically..

since you are a student, buy what you need. Grip is secondary if you haven't even decided on the lens.. asking about lenses is useless if you do not know what you want to shoot.. one man's meat is another man's poison..
worse, if you do not set a budget to recommend, some over zealous posters might just over recommend exotic glass.

Personally I think you should just grab a kit lens, there are some people dumping their d90 kit lens so maybe you can grab it if it's available.. it's value for money, and has a wide enough range for you to play with until you know what you want. This will save you lots of money in the long run.. instead of buying this and that, and realising it's underutilised.

Take a look around the photo section and you can do an exif lookup on the picture. You can extract the camera and lens info from there and understand what lens do what and maybe find something similar that suites your needs.

Is a 50 f1.8 sharp? I highly doubt so.
Yes it's good as a starter lens and it's cheap. But if you want a sharp picture from it, you'll have to stop down to around f8 or so. Then what's the point in having f1.8?

The D70s was not designed with a vertical grip. 3rd party grips are available. But they don't work well.

A 18-70 is good lens. In fact, I believe it's the best kit lens from Nikon. Like yyD70S has said, 2nd 18-70 is now selling for around $200-250. But sometimes you might find some copies below $200 ;p Just keep your eyes peeled.

The 18-70 comes with front and back caps and also lens hood, and lens manual. Take note of such things, because you don't want to be short changed. Check the lens electronic contact plates. If they are lose or dirty, the lens might not work when mounted, or it can be problematic in the future.

Hello... have you shot with a 50 f1.8 before?

Duh...

Yes of course.

Is it just me or what? Sorry I'm not in tune with the latest slang or lingo. What does 'duh' here means? Care to elaborate?
If 50mm 1.8 is not sharp... then you need to check your monitor or sent a picture for print out to size S8R and ask ppl is it sharp.

Well my point is, the 50mm f1.8, at f1.8 is not sharp enough for me. That is my opinion.

1.8 not sharp... oof or soft?

my 1.8 is soft. 2.0 is bareable... tack sharp from 2.4 to 2.8

but i see you only get sharp images from 8.0 onwards? send it for servicing or change your lens please. [whichever is cheaper];)

Dof so little how to be sharp???

Focal length + subject to camera and background have contribute to the picture softness

just asking as you guys have more experience than me.

i don't think i can find a better to put this msg across.

u seem not know nothing. u seem not to even know what u want. do u know what to check for when buying 2nd hand lenses? what happens if u end up getting a set that is faulty? student, too poor, no $ to repair, then how? these are very realistic things u have to consider.

AFS 18-70 is an old lens model, unlikely u will find one with warranty. Maybe u will have better luck with the newer 18-105 VR (from the D90 kit) which many are selling. Price should be about $300-$350. Try to buy a lens with warranty. Personal warranty that sellers give, don't take them too seriously. Only recognize LOCAL NIKON WARRANTY + SHOP RECEIPT.

Good luck in ur search.

If I need to shoot at f1.8, it's due to low light and I won't need the razor sharpness. And for $180, it's a helluva lens already.

You prefer sharper at f1.8? Go get the f1.4 and f1.2 then

DoF can be little at f1.8. But that very focus point ought to be sharp?

Yup, after trying my friend's copy of 50 1.8, I decided to buy one.
