Lens blocking viewfinder - problem?

I am RF newbie deciding what lens to buy. I have not really decided on RF camera either, but first thinking on lens.

I been reading about Nokton 1.1 but concerned that it may block part of viewfinder. (See eg. http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/vfwithouthood.jpg) credits to Mr Steve Huff. On Mr Huff's M9, the VF blockage is about 25%. Looks awful to me.

Question: Is VF blockage a problem if RF photography uses 2 eyes? Do you find it very annoying? For Nokton 1.1 owners, do you encounter this problem, and is it a problem at all?

the portion of the vf blocked really actually depends on the magnification ratio of the camera you are using. the smaller the ratio, the less is blocked. anyway, haven't had much trouble with the lens on my r2a! hope it helps.

I use an m6 (0.72 magnification) with Nokton 35 f/1.2. I find the viewfinder blockage quite a distraction, but I put up with it as I like the lens. I wish I could say that I don't notice it after a while, but it doesn't happen. The blocking affects my composition and it bothers me to a great extent. But that's just me. Suggest you try it for yourself and decide.

The huge lens (bigger than the 50/1.1?) together with a wider fov would probably be the main issue eh? Anyway, trying out the lens is a good idea first before making any purchase:)

I use the 35 1.2. I use a side swipe motion to compose.
After a few months you get used to it.

That sounds interesting, can you elaborate a bit more what you mean by side swipe motion?

yep me too for my 50/1.1! basically just move the camera a little to see what is obscured and use your imagination! anyway, if you are able to, try keeping both eyes open when taking a photo, this really lets you see more and be aware of our surroundings when taking a photo. military snipers use this technique to keep track of potential targets so they don't tunnel their vision (i should know ;) )
