Is there a adaptor to use leica screw-mount lens on a Canon SLR? Just thinking out loud...since I have some Bessa R and Russian lens from leica copies I bought some time back. The lens quality is pretty impressive, if can put onto my DSLR, would be fun.:dunno:

You might not be able to focus at all since there is a huge difference in the distance to film plane between a rangefinder and SLR camera

You have a point.

R mount is SLR and I assume that Leica R has a deeper film to focus mount distance than canon SLR therefore enabling an adapter to be made.

Hi ricohflex! (long time no see)

Correction: the adaptor that you lent me is for mounting canon FD lenses on Leica screw mount cameras. NOT what the thread starter was asking for. What sabrewolf said is correct. ie. one simply can't focus a LTM lens on canon SLR (EOS or FD mount) due to the shorter lens-mount to film plane distance.

(sorry, OT: ricoh, tried a few times to bring down the said adaptor to return you on saturdays but no luck. pls PM me a good time for you so that I could return it to you. Many thanks.)

Happy CNY (in advance) :)

Oh, just met Mr. Teo recently. Guess he is still happy with his many Leica M's.

Must have got the two adapters mixed up.
Actually there are two adapters called (IIRC) Adapter A and Adapter B. I have both.
One is for what you mentioned. Think that is the Adapter B.
I think the other is the reverse. i.e. 39mm Leica screw thread lens to Canon FD body. That is Adapter A.

Just rummaged through my stuff and found it. Confirm for Adapter A.

This Sat won't be at Peninsula Plaza. (CNY eve)

By the way, you considering the rumored digital Leica M camera?
Suppose that is not the Epson RD-1.

Just note that this set-up is only for close focus picture taking

There is a similar thread the Soviets used called the zenit-M39 lenses (ZM39) ... will thread into the same mounts, but the working distance is about similar to M42-screw. So with a M39/42 adapter and M42/eos adapter, the lenses (most common 37mm, 50mm and 85mm) will work on the EOS DSLR and go close to , if not at, infinity.

How to tell them apart is that the ZM39 lenses have the same thread as the Leica-M39 lenses (e.g. Jupiter-9, 85/2 was made in both mounts), but will not have the RF coupler.

Another mount that will also mount and go close to (but not reach) infinity... are the Braun M39 lenses made for the Paxette cameras.

Can play lah... but for serious shooting, get some modern lenses.
