Hi,anyone has tried this lens?
How its image quality to the best M lens?
Thinking of getting one.

I have one. I couldn't compare with the "best M lenses" because I don't have them:bsmilie:

To me, it has a very nice signature. If you believe in MTF curves, it is one of the highest resolving lens at f2, but I, for one, is not capable of extracting such performance most of the time.

Now you have one best M lens 75/2 AA ;)
Erwin puts called magnificient four in his review,50/1.4 75/2 90/2 135/3.4
And just 2 days ago he published again latest comparison on 90/2,75/2 M,85/2 ZM,EF85/1.2
He found 75/2M and ZM 85/2 the best in most area, and 90/2M,ef85 follow behind.
At least some idea of the lenses as normally not many got the above lenses.

Chua,still selling yr 90/2.8?
Can share 75/2 at f2 compare to 90/2.8 at f2.8 which one better?

.....leicaphile talk.........
To put myself at risk of being flamed :

erwin is known also to known to be full of BS too. And that was told to me, as a matter of introduction, by 1 of the top photojournalist in melbourne sponsored by the red dot themselves.

In other words he said, 'All leica lenses are very good. Just make good photographs, that's what matters.'

Amen!

And I may add.

The quality of leica lenses far exceeds the photography ability of most "leicaphiles" who talk about lens quality!

Yeah, still selling my 90/2.8, if not my wife would not let me sleep at night. ;)

Out of boredom, I had tested both of them crudely last week, but I haven't got the slides back yet. Anyway, if you look at the published curves, the 75 might be better as it is already very good at f2:

75 cron MTF:

90 elmarit MTF:
Untitled-2.jpg

However, in order to justify my huge investment, I must say 75 cron is way better!:bsmilie:

Seriously, to me, the most important thing is handling. I don't like the 90 framelines, 75 is much more easier to visualise for me. No matter how much I force myself to learn to use the 90, I'm not able to "see" the final image and the results are more hit and miss.

Also, the minimum focussing distance is 0.7m for the 75, the magnification is also higher (1:7 vs 1:9?).

Absolutely true. It is not easy to try to squeeze every drop of performance out of the lens just by casual shooting. Only the use of slow film and a sturdy tripod that the performance of a leica lens can be extracted. However, I like the "look" of images from modern Leica lenses, very subjective but that is absolutely my subjective opinion.

However, let's not get carried away and engage in off-thread Leica bashing again.

Roger that.

Actually I am NOT against Leica! I had NEVER indulged in Leica bashing!

I own several Leica Ms and one Leica R. I have lenses from vintage to the most modern! I have the highest regards for Leica cams and equipment!

BUT I do have this thing against blind adoration, and obsession with "WHICH LENS HAS BETTER RESOLUTION THAN WHICH?"

I do get annoyed with idiots thinking that Leica is the alpha and omega of camera equipments.

I have no regards for those whose concerns are with equipments rather than photography.

Did I hear several? Toss me one!!! OT: That reminds me, any of you have any issue with the balsam glue discoloring on the prism? It's happening on my m6 and I'm kinda worried..seems to be spreading.

Kinda asked about it and apparently the only solution ihere s to replace the whole viewfinder set with a MP finder. Hwrmm..actually that may not be a bad idea!

Get the viewfinder replaced.

Takes care of the flare too!

I apologise for my poor choice of word. Cheers!

Many treat photography as a hobby, and it is quite a unique hobby as it fufills both the technophiles and the visual artists. As long as it keeps one happy, at whatever angle the hobby is approached, there is nothing wrong.

I would think that Ansel Adams is a technophile too, with his obsession for his printing and exposure, large format resolution etc. Frankly, his pictures does nothing for me except the word "nice", but his technical contribution is quite significant. Other photographers are artists, some are just documenting. In short, to each his own!

Many who like Leica stuffs are concerned with resolution etc. This is perfectly understandable as the lenses are very expensive. If you are paying ferrari price, then you would want ferrari performance, even through you might be stuck on the CTE everyday:bsmilie: That is probably the psychology of many hobbyists and even Pros.

Sorry for this off-thread. On a lighter note, have a look at this funny site:

Yes, you are right. There is nothing wrong if one loves to caress the equipment and make love to them. Fetishes are valid.

Adams was a technophile for a purpose. To make photographs. Whether you like his images or not is irrelevant. Those who do not like Adams' photography have a reason. They fail to contextualise the time and circumstance of Adams' images.

Adams' name is firmly in the history of photography. Not many people who caress Leica equipments are anywhere close!

Yes there are those wannabes who confuse real life performances with actual performances. As long as they have a Ferrari, they think they can drive like Michael S.

CB, E Smith, Salgado, Gibson etc, can do wonders with much less resolution then the 75mm f2.

Dream on! It does not hurt to hallucinate and imagine that with great equipment, one can make great images!

The "potential" is always there!

Interesting psychology. Don't you think so?

I can't claim to be lense expert, and i think I am a borderline fondler.

The assessment of lenses based on MTF charts alone definitely does not give the full picture. Surely shallow fondlers like myself should be able to tell whether our leica lenses produce better tone, desired contrast, performance wide open ... (and other fondler terms including the :o 'B' word). Maybe our 'hit' rate may not be as high as Salgado, however the occasional 'hit' may be further enhanced by the quality of the lense.

I'm a great fan of Salgado, but watever gave u the idea Salgado's hitrate is high? :P My guess is he shoots a lot more than necessary and whittles down the selection to the best. Not forgetting his film is sponsored by Kodak...

back on topic, by all accounts from the net, the 75 AA is definitely one of the best, with the latest know-how of Leica (ASPH, floating elements) incorporated into its design.

Personally, I think if u like the focal length, are comfortable with the 75mm framelines on the M, and like the look of Lecia's modern ASPH lenses (I do), then it's worth the price, no matter what others say :)
