Leica film advanced lever

I was thinking of getting a black chrome m3/mp style film advanced lever to replace the one on my m6.

Did anyone replace before? :think:

Not sure about the M6... I'm planning to change that on my M4

Before you decide on changing, take a look at the shutter speed changing dial on the M6 & M3, it will give you a better understanding if it is possible.

Of course the camera is yours to alter as you please but Pls dont make a frankenleica!

Personally, since switching to MP, i find myself itching for the M6/M4 lever. This is because that extra piece of swivelling plastic i got this habit of twiddling with my thumb when on the hunt for a subject. I find the classic lever on my MP quite bland coz it lacks the extra hinge where the plastic is. So there isnt an extra piece to twiddle. Quite phallic really.

Back to your topic, i remember seeing frankenleicas with changed levers before. It should be possible but its a big job and the whole top must be removed. would suggest you consult leica technician like master tay. I assume you are not doing yourself.

Not only it is possible to change, it is quite simple DIY. At most 5 min job. No need to remove the top cover at all. I have just changed mine on M4:

you do need a special tool (shown in the pix above) which is available from eBay.

Yes, like Anxin said. It is very easy to change if you have the tool and the parts. 5 mins job.

If you search the previous post of "show us your Leica", you may found the example of the M6 with the film advanced lever changed.

Here is one of the M4 with the timer and frameline lever changed as well from Mr. Huub L.
