Leica addiction!

Hi!

I sold my M9 and got myself a Leica M240. Its a great camera. I have a 35mm F1.4 lens, 50mm F0.95mm lens & a 75mm F2.0 lens.
I am just crazy with Leica stuff. This weekend, I will be getting the 21mm F1.4 lens and my good friend said I am nuts to spend
on such an expensive equipment. I dare not tell my wife the truth of how much these stuff costs otherwise she will be thinking I
am crazy. Whenever she asks me how much it costs, I will tell her the price in the Nikon and Canon price range. I just love the
images the Leica lenses produce. Its fantastic.

Do you think I am getting into a Leica addiction?

Haha,...can understand your sentiment and excitment on M240.

Like you, I've both the 21 lux and Noc 0.95. Both are great lenses. I also own the 35 lux and 90 AA plus the 180 APO Elmarit R. For travelling, I'll swap both 90 AA and the 180 APO Elmarit R for the versitle 80-200 Vario Elmar R. I have bought enough of lenses for the moment (over the past 24 mths) and am in the progress of collecting hard to find Macro accessories (Oufro ring, bellow, adapters...) for my new adventure into M240 macrophotography. Hopefully I can turn my 135mm Elmarit M lens into a shallow DOF macro lens when I detach its googles and mount it onto bellow II.

hi fellow addict. i was a Pentax DSLR/SLR person until i got my first Leica (a M6) 2 weeks ago. i bought my 1st lens 50Cron within the same week. i am now itching all day and checking BNS every few hours looking for good leica deals.

Leica is not an addiction. It is the answer and let to emotional images full of Leica flavor. One can always spot an image taken with a Leica camera, it is miles above the Canon, Nikon and other herds. :)

crazy people :dunno:

Take a good look at the work of this Magnum photographer: Michael Christopher Brown
(mostly shot with an iPhone.. so it's the lens behind the cam that counts ;) )

"One man's poison is another man's meat"

Lenses and cameras are only photographic tools. There were no claims about talent = great tools in thread.

Why judge on rationality of a hobby and thread was only about sharing joy.

No wonder there is such a saying that "Leica is a camera you love to hate" to those who did not have a chance to understand.

You have GAS right now; slow down, enjoy the lenses which you presently own and use/master them.

I am a victim of Leica GAS. Now still in the process of rehabilitating.

crazy people :dunno:

Not 'crazy', but "hao4 lian4". I know you may not understand this lingo, so here goes:

BENG: “ Boon ah, what time ah?”
Boon: “ 12:30 lah. You no watch meh?”
BENG (trying hard to wave/show his gold watch): “ My LOLEX lousy lor, not accurate one.”
Boon: “ Aiyo, who ask you go buy LOREX, name only, not accurate rite? My Casio is anytime better.”
BENG:”……” (speechless & :bheart: )

Anyway I know for a fact that both you and I use and love Leica, and that it's nothing to shout about. It's just a thing after all.

Wah,....you are pathetic! Leica as to showoff???

Statistically, one in 30 folks in Singapore is a millionaire. Wake up to the fact!

I feel embarious to associate with you as another Leica user.

Hide behind a nick to flame! You're just a Looser in life!!!

no personal attacks, pls.

we all take to photography differently, some through the image, others through the gear, some have the fortune of owning expensive gear, others not so expensive gear... but noting that more expensive gear doesn't nec lead to better images.

whatever it is, we enjoy the journey our own way.

RF is not just Leica... if you delve a bit further, you'll find awesome stuff from way back in time, the likes of Fujinons, Hexanon 60mm f1.2, Nikkor 35mm f1.8, Topcor 50mm f2.8 etc came to mind!

The list goes on and on, there's just no end in sight! LOL... and this is, RF addiction! :bsmilie:

Wat is embarious?
Anyway agree with newghost...check out other lenses..the use of a M camera allow you access to a big ltm pool of lenses

Well said the Mod.

Anyway I rest my case as I have oredi upgraded from Leica to a (GOLD-) iPhone cam. After all, I only shoot those "Dear-dun-move-dun-move-ready-1-2-3-snap" kind of pix, so I figure iPhone-cam is more than powderful enuf for doing that (who need what 21 similux man)
well, likewise... while i understand that there are different stroke for different folks. we don't nec need a m240 w/ a summilux to capture nice images, but different ppl will take different routes in their photography journey.

advocate, learn, and share... there is little need to be so provocative here.

i use the iphone a lot, and had the opportunity to use the 21lux before. the iphone can get shots very easily and quickly, but sometimes, the 21lux can get images the iphone just cannot, esp in more challenging light (performance depends on the camera used). some may ask, how often do i need the 21lux to justify the cost?... some would argue that you're asking the wrong question.

in any case, in case you're wondering, i eventually settled on the zeiss 21mm biogon (f/2.8), which can also an excellent lens!! need a faster lens? can consider the voigtländer 21mm f/1.8 ultron...

I was just wondering if I should get rid of my Zeiss 21/2.8....

OT (my apology): I just took this shot with an iPhone:

<CJ: removed>

Other than resize & added frame, no other PP. This is just another snap of my cat (not even Ready-1-2-3 kindof shot, cos no need to :D)
The point is: iPhone enables me to shoot with one hand at very close range; light was so dim and yet the pix came out very clear. I don't think it is possible for me to get this shot with my digital M + any M lenses, Noct or DR cron.
as you had already conceded, this is pretty much OT... you are trying to prove a point, which need not be proved.

while there are 10 things an iPhone can do better than a RF (or DSLRs for that matter), there are probably the same number of things a digital RF can do better than a iPhone. which is better? to each their own.

i am also a proponent of using the right tool for the job, and i use different cameras and setups for different activities / events / etc - SLRs, macro, tele primes, RF, compacts, iPhones, etc. no one nec better than the other, but know your equipment, and you're know which is the right tool for the job.

For some situations we want to have AF, maybe 10fps burst with 50 shots RAW buffer, some situations we want a 500mm focal length, or Vibration Reduction, or excellent movie function, ISO 200,000, wireless multiple TTL flash like Nikon CLS etc. Then we got to use something else.

The photographer got to know what is best for him at that situation. A Pilot G2 pen is better than Mont Blanc fountain pen at many situations too.

Can anyone make better lens for a full frame sensor better (aberration, distortion, mechanical quality, bokeh etc) and smaller than Leica at the same big aperture shot wide open? No.

Buying gear is a hobby in itself... I spent lots of time wasted here on these forums just looking through BnS everyday. I looked through my Flickr stream and realised half my pics were gear porn that I took myself (really excellent pics of gear porn, I must say...).

Eventually I sold everything except two lenses, my Leica M and M6 and just focus on photography. I'm over the buying phase already for now (I thoroughly enjoyed myself though, lol!)

When i said "crazy ppl :dunno:", actually i included myself. Many things are still in my wishlist. I just dont have the money haha.

However, I also realized that we tend to buy more when we shoot less. We think of gears and keep buying them to make ourselves happy. When you travel or when you shoot a lot, you do not think much about buying gears, just about how to utilize your current equipment.
