Leica 50f2.5 or Zeiss 50 1.5

Hi RF users with great experience on lenses which do you prefer? I have the monster VC 50f1.1 for low light and am looking for a small light weight lens for day use. I get very close to the subjects and quite in your face so a small lens comes in very useful in avoiding scorns.

I have not seen the lens but from reading around the leica is really tiny lens. But zeiss is quite small too right? And about the optimized at 1.5 /2.8 and focus shift issues anyone have any good suggestion?

Hi,

I have the C-Sonnar 50/1.5 optimized for 2.8. It is my favorite lens. It is not too big and is a joy to use. The focus shift is noticeable on the M8 but not too bad on film. The colour rendition is absolutely amazing and it is very sharp too.

Here is the lens mounted on my M6TTL

I have posted some recent shots with it in this thread: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648889&page=45
Check out post #893, all photos were taken with the C-Sonnar.

I have never used or even seen the Summarit 50/2.5, I am sure it is a great lens but I will definitely not trade my Sonnar for it.

FYI I also have the big Nokton 50/1.1 but I do not use it that much, the Sonnar is pretty much glue to my M6! If you want a small lens and speed is not a concern I suggest you look at the Elmar-M 50/2.8 (the last version), it is a great lens at a great price and best of all it is tiny!

Just my 2 cents.

Also, be careful, if you buy the Zeiss C-Sonnar, you will get severely addicted to the "Sonnar Look" and you will spend a lot more money trying to find the Ultimate Sonnar Lens.

... I am sure other members will agree with me...

MS Optical R&D, MS-mode, 50 f1.3, sonnar on steroids, extreme sonnar look, personally I love this look. super compact and fast

I think I am going for the leica 50 2.5. A better all rounder. Thanks for the input=)

never consider summicron 50mm f2?? i think this is one of the best lens on film or digital..

Cron is great but I like the Summarit size and preformance is on make most of the time. save that extra for another lens =)

at 2.5 and 2, the difference is not great. and the summarit is alot cheaper. hmm... if speed is not important to you, summarit is a very outstanding lens.

heres a picture from it, bigger image for you to see better:

Image is sharp, but not ASPH kind of sharp, Bokeh is smooth. Light is soft, there is a certain vintage look to this lens. I quite like it.

Yes, I had it replaced by Schmidt HK when I was living there. I find the old-style lever easier to handle.

It is a direct swap, no modification needed.

You should go to Schmidt Singapore and they will give you a quote. I am sure you can even do it yourself if you have the proper tools but you will need a special wrench for that.
