Apologies if this thread has been discussed here before. I did a search and couldn't find the thread.

Currently looking to get a Lecia Summicron 35mm f2.

From my research, it's seems that asph version produces sharper image, while the pre-asph produces better bokeh, which of course, can be subjective.

Now there's also this talk about about the pre-asph version producing the Lecia Glow. What exactly is this Lecia glow? And does the pre-asph version produces image that looks oldish?

I shoot mainly colours, and mostly portraits or people. I'm not always looking for pin-sharp images.

So guys, which do you recommend?

It will be great if you guys can share some sample images.

Thanks a lot.

There should be a lot of expert here for this subject I think.

Anyway, here is my 2 cents:

35mm Summicron ASPH and Version IV:
There is a lot of information comparing these 2 lens on the internet actually. So I shall not comment too much. Just a simple picture taken with the version iv. Nothing special cause it is indoor and the background is quite shallow. But nevertheless...

The 35mm Pre-ASPH refers to the older Summilux. It is about the same size as the cron4 but 1 stop brighter. Another difference is that its minimum focusing distance is 1m and not 0.7m. Thus, while traveling, taking photos of food with this lens is not so ideal. Also, it does not have a filter thread, so can't screw in a UV/IR filter. I think there is a way around this but not sure.

But the glow is unique. 2 photos here taken with it.

I have all three. I use the pre-asph most, then the cron4. Almost never touch the cron-ASPH.
