I think sunfish meant that the lens is selling for $1,800 second-hand in Japan. :)

OUCH!!!! Too painful.

is the L1 lens exactly same as the one in Digilux3?

Apparently they are both made in the same factory by Panasonic in Japan to Leica specs but cosmetically they are different. The Leica version has 14-50 in the classic Leica yellow and the MegaOIS words are smaller. Also the words on the front of the lens are arranged differently. Not sure if those are the only difference. Leica never claims that their version is superior but the one on the L-1 is really superb so I doubt there's any difference optically. Can only wait for it to be released to compare IQ. :)

I was quoted SGD $3100 for the L1 at john 3;16 abt 2wks ago.. seems like a good buy..

Courts is selling for $3499 or $26.90 over 48 mths... seems like "bo hua" after doing the maths... :thumbsd:

$29xx at Paris****.

According to dc.watch.impress, the Leica 14-50mm lens would be available from 8 Dec 06 at 157,000 Yen list (about S$2,070) in Japan.

Unless there is a huge discount at the street price level, that would make the L1 body only about $900 ! :dunno:

As we all suspected, entry-level priced body with a pro-level priced lens.

I don't think the mythical 14-35/f2 would be priced much higher than that. :dunno:
