The JVC GZ-HD7AG consumer class HD camcorder has several features found in professional video camcorders. They are:

manual focus ring
ability to adjust aperture settings
ability to adjust shutter speed
zebra (over-exposure detection)
ability to turn off gain (no variable settings for gain)
optical image stabilization (OIS)
professional looking lens hood

However, there are user reports in the internet that the OIS doesn't work, or works non-effectively. Many users in the USA have returned the units.

As you can see, manufacturers are now tempting us by packing professional features into consumer HDV video cameras.

The MPEG-2 transport stream HD videos recorded in the 60 GB harddisk of JVC GZ-HD7 is a non-standard implementation of HDV. You cannot import the videos into major video editing software. You have to use the software provided by JVC to convert the raw videos into a format recognizable by the major video editing NLEs. An extra step in the workflow.
