Just jumped onto M8.2 bandwagon

I was into photography in the 90s. However, late into early 2000s, work commitments and family prevented me from delving into this passion.
The revival or stirring came when I was recently in Japan. The photos my wife took on a simple P & S were fine but limitations about ( night shoots, low light etc)
But daytime pictures/snow were ok.
What really started the 'hard-on' was when I was at Hakodate and saw the Photo Museum. It was a wake -up call(so to speak)

To cut the long story short, i was actually going to get the X1. But after some considerations, decided to get a RF, just for the heck of it. Was reading about M8/8.2 and nearly pulled the trigger on an ebay for USD3K but after some thoughts, decided against buying without 'molesting' the goods!

I think i paid a good price for the 8.2 in black and cant wait to start my RF journey.

Now my dilemma is should I get a 28/2 or 35/1.4. I will use it for travel photo

Any advice is deeply appreciated!

PS. i need a crash-course in how to optimise/maximise the 8.2 once I get the lens. Any kind teachers out there who can teach a digi-virgin?

Hello, i don't own an M8.2, but during my shopping in town recently, there is a book on it at Kinokuniya (Takashimya) Leica M Digital Photography : M8/M8.2
ISBN:9781600591938 S$58.22 i think still available (at the photography section)

welcome to RF and you have a digital RF :) woooohooo

Well 50mm equivalent works for me. I shot exclusively 50mm when travelling on holiday and ocasionally used a 18mm equivalent to capture scenic views & buildings. According to a poll in rangefinderforum, most people either use 50mm or 35mm equivalent.

Welcome!
Lens choice is a very personal thing. I shoot mainly 50mm on my M8.

Like u i also just got baptised into RF cams by getting an M8.2 week back.. in the end i got a 28mm f2 ultron and 50mm 1.1.. no regrets! was very very skeptical with the 50mm due to the crop factor, but the speed and results really changed the game..

For normal lens (on m8) you can try CV 35mm f1.4 as a start. Its a gem of a lens if you consider the price, size and looks. Just sold mine to help pool purchase for a 50 lux and maybe one day will get it back...

Congrats on your new toy! ;)

"baptised" - What a word to use! :bsmilie:

Who is the priest? :bsmilie:

will start the RF journey with the 35/1.4. (hopefully wont change my mind and get the 40mm or 28mm. will update!

Haha I am also the same as you. Last week I also jump onto the bandwagon.

bro, did u considered the 35/1.4?

Yes i was thinking very hard on 35mm + 50mm combo or 28mm + 40 or 50mm combo..

i heard very good things about 35mm 1.4, and 28mm did not have a f1.4 lens.. but i was very comfortable shooting at 17mm (27mm equiv) on my 50D previously so i opted for the 28mm ultrons for landscapes and group photos. to complement, i got the 50mm 1.1 for low light shooting and individual portraits. quite happy with this combo now.

for me 35mm seemed neither wide enough (due to crop factor of M8) or close enough for the stuff i'm shooting so it depends on what range you are comfortable with.

so what lens did u get?
I am considering a 28/2 or 35/1.4

comments?

I bought the Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2. Can't seems to find a new Leica version :(
