just for fun - more classifications for post counts and value creation

hi admins and mods,

just thinking aloud...

a) after hitting my 2,000 post and becoming a senior member, what now? :bsmilie:

wondering if we can have more classifications?

for example...
2,000 (2 years) "senior member"
5,000 (3 years) "super senior member"
10,000 (5 years) "old bird"
20,000 (8 years) "damn free"
etc...

b) also you know how we leave comments on thread. can we allow other members to rate the comments so that we know what is the "value add" by the member?

possible. add in the function that u see on other forums, such as "members allenleonhart thanks pokiemon for this post" kind of stuff. it would be nice as u get an idea whose opinions are genuinely useful

some forums use a reputation system.

if a member likes another member's post, or thinks that the member has contributed positively, then they will give positive rep points.

the problem with this is that of course, this discourages critique, and encourages buddy comments. and then it becomes a very childish horse race to see who has more friends to rep each other positively and become a rep whore.

And some forums have ridiculous titles for members, like "supremacy member".
I hope CS doesn't degenerate in that direction.

So far CS is a very business-like forum. I think we can inject a bit more fun and liveliness in the member classifications like what pokiemon has suggested.

As for member rep, I'm ok without it. Readers know whose comments sound more useful and credible to them. Is there a need to use rep to see whose comments you should pay attention to?

having a rep rating system will
1) encourage users to provide more constructive comments
2) if i am a newbie, the ratings will identify those i am more likely to believe. it's like getting accreditation.

the flip-side is that you can have a situation like this:

Person A posts a photo in gallery

Person B: wah! si beh swee... I love the sky!
Person A: tks tks! I upz you... remember to upz me back too
Person B: no prb bro!....
.
.
.
.
. and so on and so forth.
Imagine such a situation perpetuating itself...

i dont know why we would have this problem. is it because the members in this forum are not matured enough?

i have been to other forums (not photogrphaphy) and there are generally two type of members like in cs: contributors and newbies. contributors are helpful and experts in the subject. newbies are the ones asking questions but dont get flamed. moderators step in when rules are not followed.

... I think must make a special case for this... :bsmilie:

OP, you want more classifications for post counts, must adopt the sponsorship model...
Pay more money towards CS upkeep and I'm sure they would be happy to accord you a range of titles... works well enough in the corporate world. Money talks...

I have seen a few forums whereby some of the members' signatures have something that goes like this:
"Next people on my upz list: ______, ______, _______"

and posts that go like this: "thanks for the upz! I will upz you back when I am able!"

if this sort of situation permeates, it's a long and slippery slope downhill...

hmm. sadly, all forums have this problem... we have jokers who registered with 0 post count trying to troll and stuff. i suspect got to do with sg's lifestyle.

why nto make it erm. every upz u wanna get, u have to upload 3 decent photos for ppl to critique and accredit:thumbsup:

The title is so misleading..

At first I have the impression that the suggestion is to have more classification, like instead of

will be a headache to manage, I feel.

Even this 'post count' system is a bit flawed.
Recently there was someone who hit the 'longevity' requirement for Senior Member, but not the post count requirement. All of a sudden there were LOTS of useless posts like 'good shot' in various gallery sections, some more in very old threads.
So now that person is Senior Member.... woohoo....

(y) not easy to keep posting. i only post if got something really interesting creeps by, hence my relatively low post count:think:
post count system is not easy to beat. 2k is no joke. unless ur really bored and willing to dash out 2k worth of "good jobs", i think its quite a safe system.

then you'll have people saying..."you think you senior member can treat others like ________ is it"
